Combatting anti-EU discourses and misinformation in North Macedonia and Serbia

Given the complexity of today’s misinformation, which cannot be solved by fact-checking alone in a “post-truth” context, we aim to analyze how discourse is constructed and how a new discursive hegemony is emerging—one that produces anti-European effects without openly declaring anti-European...

CfP - European Political Community: Supporting EU Enlargement from the sidelines?

The Andrássy University Budapest in cooperation with the Journal Medjunarodni problemi / International Problems is working on a special issue on the European Political community's role in supporting EU enlargement.

The question of how the EU should proceed with the EU integration process in future is a dominant political issue for the EU and the candidate countries. The political actors of the candidate countries might interpret the establishment of the EPC as another attempt to side-line the issue of EU enlargement by launching other political platforms and diverting energy in different “political projects” rather than making a decision on EU membership. Others consider the EPC as an “accelerator” of the accession process (Lonardo 2023, 760). Could the meetings for the EPC have a positive momentum on the enlargement process or the political situation in the Western Balkans? Is the EPC another tool to consult on the future enlargement of the Southeast and East of Europe? Can the EPC delay or accelerate the accession of the candidate countries?

The collection of articles for the thematic special issue aims to address some of the above mentioned questions, it should take stock of three years of EPC's existence, and to explore whether the topic of EU enlargement has been addressed. Furthermore, authors may wish to examine whether the EFTA countries support the EU's enlargement towards the Western Balkans in the context of the EPC. Case studies of countries participating in the EPC are welcome.

Commentary by our AUB PhD-Student Frauke Seebass:

Der Besuch von NATO-Generalsekretär Mark Rutte in Kosovo und Bosnien und Herzegowina steht im Zeichen zunehmender Spannungen zwischen den USA und Europa. Die eingefrorenen Konflikte auf dem Westbalkan drohen aufzutauen.
