The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Padjadjaran, successfully held a general lecture titled “Overview of the Accounting Profession in the Modern Era” as part of the Auditing I course under the theme “Audit Profession”.
Conducted in a hybrid format and attended by Accounting students from four classes, the session featured Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kamaruzzaman Muhammad as keynote speaker and was moderated by Saskia Salmana Dahyar, S.E., M.Sc.
The lecture highlighted how the accounting profession has evolved beyond traditional financial reporting. In today’s dynamic business environment, accountants are expected to possess analytical capabilities, technological literacy, and strategic thinking skills. Students were also introduced to diverse career pathways, including auditing, taxation, financial analysis, forensic accounting, management accounting, and sustainability reporting.
The discussion further emphasized the importance of professional competence and ethics in building a successful accounting career. Aspiring accountants are encouraged to pursue professional certifications and continuously develop their skills to remain competitive in an ever-changing landscape.
A key focus of the session was the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the accounting profession. While AI can enhance efficiency in tasks such as data processing, auditing, fraud detection, and financial analysis, human expertise remains irreplaceable.
Professional judgment, ethical decision-making, leadership, communication, and critical thinking continue to be essential qualities that distinguish professional accountants in the modern era.
