In July 2021, the Government of Indonesia has submitted its Long-Term Strategy (LTS) to the UNFCCC, declare to reach net zero-emission in 2060 or sooner. Agriculture, Forestry, and Land Use (AFOLU) is the key sector to enable the emission offset from other hard-to-abate sectors and to reach national vision towards net zero-emission. The most ambitious scenario, Low Carbon Compatible with Paris (LCCP), showed that decarbonizing the AFOLU sector requires a rapid decrease of peat decomposition and zero peat fire.
While peatland policies have been progressively developed, the implementation scheme for restoration and sustainable use of peatland are still weak, primarily on the financing readiness side. CCROM-SEAP IPB, in collaboration with Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI), will host Focus Group Discussion regarding the Innovative Credit/Financing Scheme Model for Sustainable Peatland Management, with the main objective to identifying economic enablers to promote paludiculture amongst the value chain actors. The FGD will be held on September 16, 2021, from 9 a.m. Jakarta time. Be there or be square!
