Samhain is in the air! Bunclody had always had a great tradition of celebrating Halloween (Samhain) and the next generation are no different. Here's a few pictures from the BCC Halloween Dress-Up Competition this Friday. Aliens, nuns, witches and Darth Vader fighting a priest; Enjoy. (No students were harmed in the make-up of these photos!)

Following on from the earlier post about the school's engagement with sicence on a national level, 1st years are busy preparing for science week which takes place after midterm as they created wonderful models of plant and animal cells. They were given the task to create the cells at home and use their own creativity to show how they would represent cells and their inner structures. This follows on from both 1 Elm and 1 Ash completing the topic of cells within science. Please enjoy a slection of the projects, and thanks to the students who were happy to step in for photos. Sure where would we be without them?

Bunclody Community College is proud to have played a role in shaping the future of science education in Ireland.
We were delighted to contribute to the recent NCCA consultation on the new Chemical and Physical Science specification. Our staff and students provided valuable feedback as part of this nationwide engagement process, helping to inform the final curriculum now published.
Lets hope this encourages even more engagement with science from the next generation!

Halloween is creeping up on us! So last week the Transition Year History and Folklore class carved turnips & pumpkins for Samhain (Halloween). Traditionally in Ireland turnips were carved into scary heads to keep away the Puca (evil spirits) which were active at this time of the year. When the tradition crossed the Atlantic with Irish emigrants in the 19th century, turnips became pumpkins!
Pumpkins are easier to carve for sure but less traditional, and turnips look scarier I think you'll agree!

Two students. Two original projects. One very proud school.
Bunclody Community College continues to punch above its weight! This year the school has, not one, but TWO students, who managed to qualify for the Stripe Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition!
We are absolutely delighted to congratulate Ari Ghosh and Sam Bolger who will take their projects to the RDS in Dublin in early 2027. This really is a tremendous achievement and a real testament to their hard work, creativity, and passion for scientific inquiry. Qualifying for one of Ireland’s most prestigious student competitions is no small feat, and we are incredibly proud of all our participants. We wish Ari and Sam the very best as they prepare to showcase their project at the exhibition. We have no doubt they will be outstanding ambassadors for our school.
Best of luck, Ari and Sam! The school and community are all behind you! See the link in the comments for more information on this fantastic achievement.

A brilliant effort from our Bunclody Community College boys last week! Both teams showed tremendous heart and determination, with two games decided by just a basket and a single point. Our U19s also secured a great win over Gorey ET!
The boys left everything out on the court and represented the school brilliantly. Plenty of positives to take forward as we look ahead to our next blitz on Thursday!

At Bunclody Community College, we believe technology should enhance teaching and learning, not be used simply because it is available.
We have no plans to move to a one-to-one device model. Instead, we continue to invest strategically in ICT facilities, including our new computer room on the senior campus, open this year.
As a proud Digital Schools badge winner, we recognise the value of digital learning and assistive technology where it benefits the students.
Our priority remains clear: excellent teaching, strong subject knowledge, critical thinking and the retention of information across all subjects. We are also helping students understand how to use technology responsibly, as a learning tool rather than something to become dependent on.
Our approach is informed by educational research, teacher expertise and the needs of our students — embracing technology where it genuinely makes a difference.
Our ambition is not to be a school where technology is used everywhere, but a school where technology is used effectively.
See the link attached in the comments for more details on our blended learning model, combining tradition and innovation.
