UCC Theatre's HoD, Pr Jools Gilson presents an exciting installation, "The Saérlaith Project" at HearSay International Audio Festival this weekend 🧺🧑‍🩰🌳

📍HearSay International Audio Festival, Kilfinane, Co. Limerick

🗓️May 8th - 10th 2026

The Saérlaith Project is a new installation by Jools Gilson made in collaboration with Visual Artist Veronica Sa****um and Sound Artist / Videographer Benjamin Burns.

"Somewhere, there in the deep dark, I am wondering. I wonder with all this movement from before and from now and from what will come."

Rooms of whispering sphagnum moss, haunting dance films and 7th century bogstories. The Saérlaith Project digs deep into embodied audio with an art installation buried in Cloonshannagh Bog, Co. Roscommon. Bowls of sphagnum moss whisper, choreography collaborates with moths in short dance films, something moves beneath a haunted map; a real 7th Century female bog body has things to say at Hearsay.

Made with research support from Engineers Brendan O’Flynn and Colum Crowe (Tyndall National Institute). Dance Films shot on Griston Bog, Ballylanders, Co. Limerick with the support of Ballyhoura Heritage and Environment, in collaboration with Dance Artist Justine Cooper.

Funded by Insight (Research Ireland), The Arts Council, UCC & Fulbright Ireland. Based on research conducted as part of an Arts Council Dance Bursary 2023 / Fulbright Scholar Award 2021.

✨Giorgia Ionescu

Giorgia Ionescu is an aspiring actress who, from an early age, has been driven to explore and learn from different cultures. This began with an exchange in Finland, followed by pursuing her passion for theatre in Cork, and later expanding her experience with a year abroad in Malta during her studies. During her time at UCC, she encountered a physical approach to theatre that initially felt intimidating, but she has since come to embrace into her creative practice, with the body becoming a vehicle for storytelling. Giorgia is fond of exploring some less utilised techniques in her performance, she loves to take risks that has her adrenaline pumping as she gives the audience her all.

✨Thula Isaack

Thula Isaack is a student of UCC’s Theatre & Performative Practices BA. On top of this she has also been a dedicated member of the Dramatic Society and has twice served as the coach of the Advanced Improv team. Thula also has roots in stand-up comedy, writing, and public speaking. She credits her love for theatre to her Dutch-Namibian heritage and her curiosity for the world beyond borders. She thanks you for coming to see this production.

✨Anna Issajeva

Anna Issajeva is a theatre artist from Ireland. Her work moves between the architecture of traditional theatre, the raw energy of devised work and movement-based performance: spaces where something unexpected can happen. A current student in Theatre and Performative Practices at University College Cork, she spent a year on Erasmus in Malta that left her more driven than before. What propels her is a question she's still chasing: how do you make an audience feel something they haven't felt before? She hasn't found the answer yet, and that's exactly where she wants to be.

In her final year of college in UCC Theatre, she has expressed a desire to selectively reveal which elements of a narrative the audience receives, leaving them with a profound sense of questioning. After graduating, she hopes to pursue a career in creative direction for ambiguous creative projects that explore themes such as political and social discourse
