Dear All,
The Irish Times Debate is Ireland's longest-running debating competition and is now in its 58th year. All debates are pre-prepared, so motions will be sent out in advance, making the competition a great environment for novices and experienced speakers alike. Former winners include Marian Finucane, Dara O'Briain and Mr. Justice Adrian Hardiman.
The prize for the winning team and winning individual is an all-expenses paid three week debating tour the United States next March and April, organised by the Irish Times and their US partners. The winners will be hosted by universities across the US and previous tours have included visits to New York, Denver, and Alaska. We will also have goodie bags for all first round participants and draws for spot prizes throughout the year that everyone who competes in a first round will be entered into.
Further information on the format and what to expect from the competition can be found in the following article - please feel free to share this around your society to help new speakers familiarise themselves with the competition: http://www.irishtimes.com/news/education/guide-for-speakers-entering-the-competition-1.1706760
If you wanna sign up, please message us on our page, so we can put your name up.
Many thanks,
