Retina International – Science Communications Executive.

Overview:
Retina International (RI) was established in 1978 as an international umbrella group acting as a central point of contact for patient organisations concerned with finding cures for retinal degenerative diseases including rare and genetically inherited and age related forms. RI has grown to be a powerful voice for the global retina community with 43 active member organisations, along with further interested groups across all continents.
RI is currently implementing a new communications strategy and is developing bespoke advocacy toolkits to be disseminated globally to all stakeholders.
The Role:
Retina International is seeking a professional with a background in science communications:
Duties:
• Work with the RI team on the implementation of its global communications strategy.
• Work with project managers on the delivery and dissemination of capacity building and education toolkits to our global audience.
• Coordinate communication between a global contributors ensuring adherence to agreed deadlines and milestones.
• Responsible for compilation and dissemination of quarterly newsletters to different audiences.
• Responsible for upkeep of RI website and social media output.
• Responsible for regular dissemination of relevant scientific literature.
• Main point of contact for RI global membership.
• Represent RI at conferences and events.
Skills Required:
• Experience in delivery of communications campaigns in the area of medical research or public health.
• Ability to interpret scientific data and provide it in lay terminology that is accessible and translatable.
• Proficiency in Microsoft packages.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with the area of ophthalmology desired but not a requirement.
• Fluent English speaker required, second language desirable.
Education:
Educated to degree level at minimum in: life sciences, public health, science communications.
