This year we ran Nature and Biodiversity classes in the Finglas and Cabra Libraries.
The students were keen to get out and explore nature in the local areas. We had tree walks in the Phoenix Park and Johnston Park, Trips to Bull Island, a survey of the Tolka River and talks with Connecting Cabra about their pond and with park officer Mick Burke about the biodiversity in Tolka Valley park. We have so much nature to enjoy in Finglas and Cabra, from birds, pollinators and river life and much more. If you would like to learn more about nature and biodiversity, take a course with us in September. Get in touch for more details 086 013 8147 or [email protected]

🌿🦋 Our Nature and Biodiversity group recently took a trip to Bull Island to learn more about the amazing wildlife on our doorstep.

Bull Island is part of the North Dublin Bay Special Area of Conservation, thanks to the many important marine plants and animals that call it home. During our visit, we spotted sea buckthorn, sea spurrey, wild orchids, beetles and birds, including the meadow pipit.

We are incredibly lucky to have such a rich and diverse natural habitat right in the heart of our city. 🌊🍃

🐟🌿 Our Nature and Biodiversity students recently got hands-on with the Inland Fisheries Ireland education team during a river sampling session on the River Tolka in Finglas.

Despite flowing through a busy urban area, the River Tolka is full of life! Learners were fascinated to discover a wide variety of fish and aquatic invertebrates living in the river. By sampling these species, they also learned how water quality is assessed and monitored.

This course was delivered in partnership with Library and we would like to extend a huge thank you to Rory and the team at Inland Fisheries Ireland for such an informative and enjoyable experience. 👏🌍

Our Preparation for Full-time FET (QQI Levels 5 and 6) English Language Summer School gave learners the opportunity to improve their English while preparing for further study.

Learners took part in a range of exciting activities, including a special Bloomsday tour with visits to Sweny’s Pharmacy, the National Gallery of Ireland, and the National Museum of Ireland – Natural History.

They also enjoyed a Taste of Culture event, sharing food from around the world, and joined our Irish Language Summer School to learn some basic Gaeilge.

A brilliant experience of learning, culture, and connection – well done to all involved! 👏🎉

🍀 Gaeilge le Chéile – Learning Irish Together! 🍀

What a fantastic three weeks! 🎉

Our Gaeilge le Chéile pilot programme at City of Dublin FET College Barry Road, Finglas helped parents build their confidence in Irish while supporting their children's learning at home.

From bodhrán making and yoga to pizza making and a visit to Aon Scéal Café, learners discovered that Irish can be fun, practical and part of everyday life.

A huge well done to everyone who took part! 💚

📚✨ Gemma and Jan were delighted to represent our Adult Literacy for Life team at the national roadshow in Portlaoise, where they showcased *Making Sense of Reading* – a reading manual developed to support beginner readers.

It was a fantastic opportunity to share this valuable resource with colleagues from across the country and to celebrate the power of literacy and lifelong learning. Well done to Gemma and Jan for championing adult literacy and helping to make reading accessible to all! 👏
