β˜€οΈJCSP Summer Celebration β˜€οΈ

Last Monday was all about celebrating our 3rd year students! We proudly presented their JCSP Profiles, a snapshot of all the hard work, progress, and personal achievements made throughout the course of their Junior Cycle. They were treated with a BBQ to mark the occasion! Well done everyone! πŸŽ‰πŸ“šπŸ‘πŸ”

All our Junior students take part in the JCSP (Junior Certificate School Programme) πŸ“˜ as well as completing their Junior Cycle state exams in June. It aims to help students build skills πŸ› οΈ and confidence πŸ’ͺ that align with their strengths and needs, offering a more tailored approach to learning.

The JCSP focuses on a wide range of skills, not just academic ones! It encourages students to develop practical abilities 🧠, build their self-esteem 🌟, and engage in meaningful activities 🧩 that support their future education and life.

Students are assessed on their progress and achievements through the JCSP profile πŸ“, which showcases their efforts across various areas including literacy ✏️, numeracy βž•, social skills 🀝, and personal development 🌱

Through engaging activities and continuous assessment, students create a profile that reflects their journey and achievements beyond the classroom.

Thanks to Ms Moynihan for organising and to Nora and SiobhΓ‘n SNA for the BBQ πŸ™

πŸ₯‡ Gold Award - The Oasis Project

Congratulations to Killorglin Community College, Kerry, winners of the Gold Award at this year’s YSI Awards for their outstanding project The Oasis Project.

This inspiring team is bringing emotional wellbeing into everyday school life through a series of corridor-based wellbeing stations designed to help students reset and recharge throughout the day. By creating accessible tools for emotional regulation, they are helping to build a more supportive and compassionate school environment.

A thoughtful and innovative approach to student wellbeing.

πŸ“£MORE NATIONAL AWARDS FOR KILLORGLIN CCπŸ“£

πŸ†NATIONAL GOLD AWARD WINNERSπŸ†

What an extraordinary achievement for our students at this year’s Young Social Innovators Awards. Out of 324 projects nationally, not one, but TWO of our student projects won their challenge categories and, in an unforgettable moment, the OASIS project was awarded the Overall Gold Award, the highest honour of the entire event. 🌟

Our school was also the only winning school in the country to have two separate category-winning projects this year, an incredible reflection of the leadership, innovation, compassion, and determination shown by our students.

🌍🌱 Greener & Cleaner won the Sustainability for Our Planet category for their work promoting sustainability and reducing waste within the school community. Through practical student-led action, the group helped bring about meaningful environmental changes and encouraged a stronger culture of Respect and Responsibility.

πŸ’›πŸ§  OASIS was recognised for its innovative work developing the Pantheon HXR Gauntlet, a series of practical movement, breathing, grounding, and reset stations designed to support emotional regulation and wellbeing during the school day. The project helped make regulation strategies visible, inclusive, and accessible to all students while promoting greater understanding around wellbeing and SEN. Students worked closely with Ms McCarthy, who acted as their specialist advisor throughout the project.

To then see the OASIS project awarded the Overall Gold Award on a national stage made the achievement even more special. This is the top award presented by Young Social Innovators and represents the highest level of national recognition for social innovation, impact, and student leadership.

We are unbelievably proud of every student involved. Their work shows the power of student voice when young people are given the opportunity to lead, create change, and make a real difference in their community.

A huge well done and a special thank you also to Ms Nagle for her mentorship throughout both projects and Ms McCarthy for her expertise in project OASIS πŸ™Œ

Student voice. Real action. National recognition. Lasting impact. πŸ‘
