The deadline for entries to Unheard Voices: The Joe Drennan Memorial Prize for Inclusive Journalism, in association with The Irish Times, is May 31.

Established in memory of Joe Drennan, the UL journalism student killed tragically in 2023, the Drennan Prize is open to students in third-level institutions studying for all courses throughout the island of Ireland.

"It is a real privilege to have my work recognised by a programme that not only celebrates scientific achievement, but also actively champions equity, visibility, and representation for women in science."

UL researcher Dr Olwyn Mahon has been awarded the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science UK and Ireland Young Talent Award in Engineering.

Dr Mahon received the award based on her research, which focuses on developing advanced engineered 3D tissue models that better replicate the changing biomechanics of bladder cancer.

Design@UL showcases the opportunities for creativity by Architecture and Product Design students to create a better society for now and into the future."

Design@UL, an exhibition of over 70 projects from final year students at UL’s internationally acclaimed School of Architecture and Product Design, will run at Limerick’s Istabraq Hall until 4 June.

The annual exhibition gives members of the public an opportunity to see the pioneering work of some of Ireland’s most talented emerging designers across a range of fields, from technology to healthcare to the built environment.
