Sociology The Department of Sociology at UL is committed to asking critical questions during difficult times.

Founded in 1993, the Department of Sociology at UL has won numerous awards for teaching excellence and hosts varied and vigorous research activity. The interests and strengths of the Department of Sociology at UL include the sociology of health and illness; the body; the media; education; youth, community and social regeneration; gender and migration; religion; social mobility; family; the interne

t and social media. Further details of faculty research interests are available on the departmental website. The Department of Sociology is actively involved in a range of research projects in the Institute for the Study of Knowledge and Society (ISKS) and also organizes annual Winter Schools in Social Science Research Methods. The Department of Sociology is home to SOCHEOLAS, The Limerick Student Journal of Sociology. It hosts regular research seminars for Staff, Postgraduates and the wider community.
