It was wonderful to see the UL alumni community come together once again in Luxembourg for another special evening making new connections and strengthening the UL alumni network abroad.
We are incredibly grateful to UL alumnus Jekabs Vinauds for kindly hosting the evening on our behalf, and to Thérèse Collins for her support on the night.
We would also like to extend our thanks to Ambassador of Ireland to Luxembourg, Jean McDonald, for once again joining our group for the evening.
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a success. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

“I believe curiosity is vital as it allows us to think about what we could be, how we can grow and develop.

UL allowed us to believe we could achieve what we set our minds to and being curious means we don’t have a ceiling on what we can achieve."

In this week's Alumni Spotlight, we chat to public servant and member of the Army Reserve, Joshua Ryan, a graduate of UL’s Bachelor of Arts and Masters in Public Administration.

We are delighted to see one of our own, UL alumnus Professor Shane Kilcommins, appointed as President of the University of Limerick.

Professor Kilcommins has made a significant contribution to the University throughout his career. He previously served as Provost and Deputy President, and as Acting President since 2024, bringing extensive academic and executive leadership experience to the role.

A full Professor of Law, he is widely respected for his scholarship, with a strong record in research, public engagement and service. His work is closely associated with principles of justice, rights and fairness, including long-standing engagement with organisations and agencies across policing, prisons and the wider criminal justice system.

As Acting President, Professor Kilcommins provided steady leadership during a period of institutional challenge, representing the University nationally and strengthening key relationships, while maintaining a clear focus on UL’s academic mission.

We look forward to this next chapter under his leadership and extend our warmest congratulations.
