Delighted to share that members of our team presented our research at the 17th European Sociological Association Conference Strengthening Democracies: Social Action, Solidarity, and Sustainable Futures, which took place in Warsaw, 25–28 August 2026.
🎤Jane, Maria and Witek presented “Biographical ecologies of memory in Poland and Ireland”, whereas Witek and Jane discussed “Participatory community in peri-urban areas.”

The conference was a fantastic opportunity to present our project, share our research experiences, and have interesting conversations with colleagues from different disciplines and research centres 💬🤝
We are grateful to have been part of such an inspiring academic event and would like to thank European Sociological Association for organising the Conference and bringing together researchers from across Europe.

Miło nam poinformować, że członkowie naszego zespołu zaprezentowali nasze badania podczas 17. Konferencji Europejskiego Towarzystwa Socjologicznego (European Sociological Association), która odbyła się w dniach 25-28 sierpnia 2026 w Warszawie.

🎤Jane, Maria i Witek zaprezentowali “Biograficzne ekologie pamięci w Polsce i Irlandii” a nastepnie Witek i Jane dyskutowali o “Społecznościach partycypacyjnych na obszarach podmiejskich”.
Konferencja była doskonałą okazją do zaprezentowania naszego projektu, podzielenia się doświadczeniami badawczymi oraz odbycia ciekawych rozmów z badaczami z różnych dyscyplin i ośrodków naukowych. 💬🤝

Cieszymy się, że mogliśmy być częścią tak inspirującego wydarzenia naukowego. Dziękujemy organizatorom European Sociological Association za przygotowanie konferencji oraz stworzenie przestrzeni do spotkania i wymiany doświadczeń między badaczami z całej Europy.

🎤✨At the Oral History Network of Ireland Conference last Friday, our team members Saif and Witek delivered a project presentation that focused especially on its Community Collection component.
Saif presented “Listening to Loss: Community Voices from Suszec, Poland and Carrickmacross, Ireland” and Witek discussed “Narratives about place and space in changing local communities: Based on methodological experiences and research results from the Linloss project”.
It was a great opportunity to hear the experiences of fellow researchers and activists working in the broad field of oral history. Thank you to the organisers for making this event possible.

On Sunday, 14 June, Dr. Witold Mandrysz, a member of our research team took part in the Suszec’s Day celebrations as part of a participant observation. This year’s event was especially festive, marking the 700th anniversary of the village’s history.✨
Performances by well-known artists attracted not only local residents but also many visitors from both nearby and more distant areas.
Even the capricious weather couldn’t spoil the wonderful atmosphere and great fun; quite the opposite, as a spectacular rainbow appeared for everyone enjoying the event.🌈

W niedzielę 14 czerwca Dr Witold Mandrysz, członek naszego zespołu badawczego w ramach obserwacji uczestniczącej, wziął udział w obchodach Dni Suszca, które w tym jubileuszowym roku 700-lecia historii gminy miały szczególnie huczny charakter. ✨
Występy gwiazd ogólnopolskiego formatu przyciągnęły nie tylko mieszkańców ale również wielu gości z bliższych i dalszych okolic.
Nawet kapryśna pogoda nie zdołała zepsuć wspaniałej atmosfery i świetnej zabawy. Wręcz przeciwnie - bawiącym się ukazała się zjawiskowa tęcza 🌈

We held one of our workshop sessions at the local Cultural Centre in Suszec Gminny Ośrodek Kultury w Suszcu, where we discussed various aspects of community collection which is an integral part of our project. 🔍✨
We are very grateful to the Centre for allowing us to use one of their meeting rooms for the workshop and for their warm hospitality.

During our field trip to the study area of Suszec, we had the pleasure of visiting the local library and having an interesting conversation with Ms. Iwona Pawełek, the Director of Gminna Biblioteka Publiczna w Suszcu and Ms. Dorota Kolarczyk-Bestwina, the librarian. We shared our experiences of conducting research in the village and surrounding area, and we chatted about the village’s history, comparing it with our research area of Carrickmacross in Ireland.
It was fascinating to learn more about the local history and the events being planned to mark the 700‑year anniversary of Suszec🎉
We also had the chance to see the village’s past and its people through the beautiful archival photographs displayed outside the library.
We are very grateful to the library staff for their warm hospitality and their interest in our project🤝

Podczas naszej wizyty terenowej w Suszcu mieliśmy przyjemność odwiedzić lokalną bibliotekę, gdzie spotkaliśmy się z Panią Iwoną Pawełek, Dyrektor Gminna Biblioteka Publiczna w Suszcu, oraz Panią Dorotą Kolarczyk-Bestwiną, bibliotekarką. Rozmawialiśmy o prowadzeniu naszych badań w okolicy, historii giminy i porównaliśmy ją z naszym irlandzkim obszarem badawczym Carrickmacross w Irlandii.
Podczas spotkania dowiedzielismy się więcej o lokalnej historii oraz o przygotowaniach do obchodów 700‑lecia gminy Suszec 🎉 Zobaczyliśmy też piękne archiwalne fotografie przedstawiające dzieje Suszca i jego mieszkańców, prezentowane na wystawie przed biblioteką.
Dziękujemy pracownikom biblioteki za serdeczne przyjęcie i zainteresowanie naszym projektem.🤝
