NLN Sligo Leitrim New Directions Supporting students to reach their full potential in life while making realistic choices

At NLN in Sligo we provide a range of free courses to people who have
had an accident, illness, injury or have a disability and extra support
needs. Our courses are tailored to each student's needs, to help
them to build their confidence while getting practical job-seeking
skills to help them get a job or go on to further training.

Thanks to everyone for helping out in the gardening club.

We were planting all our seedlings that our lovely green fingered gang helped put in the pots a few weeks ago.

𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐊𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐲, Instructor with NLN Carrick-on-Shannon, is pictured receiving her nomination for the Inclusion Advocate Award – Making Inclusion Happen, alongside representatives from the NLN Centre, Colleen Keenan (Instructor) and Sharon Thornton (Area Manager), who were nominated for the Inclusive National Employer of the Year Award. Both awards were presented to very deserving winners.

The Inclusion Advocate Award was jointly awarded to Noel Beirne of Drum Community Centre (Ionad Pobail an Droma) and Helen Kells of Carrigallen Mart.

The Inclusive Collaboration & Integration Award was also jointly awarded, to ESB Networks and Aura Leitrim Leisure Centre.

𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 to all the Award winners and nominee's.

A big thank you to Leitrim Development Company for a fabulous evening.

Great day had in the ATU Sligo & ATU St Angelas on Tuesday.

Some of our students visited Maker Space, where we had the opportunity to find out more about 3d printing and other technologies.

We also got to use the really cool laser cutter to make our own designs.

Thanks very much to Stuart Lawn for being a great host and tutor!

NLN Manorhamilton had their Open Day yesterday and would like to thank Councillors James Gilmartin and Padraig Fallon for taking the time to come in our centre.

During the tour of the centre, they heard first hand from the students what the programme in Manorhamilton has on offer Computer courses, Work Experience, Part-Time Employment, Health and Exercise activities, Communication and Interpersonal Skill and much more.

Students from the Sligo Link programme travelled to Dublin on the train to show support for our student who's work featured in the Connections Arts Centre Exhibition at RHA Gallery.

The CA Collective is a community of artists who identify as having and intellectual disability or who are part of the neurodivergent community.

It has been a busy few weeks in Manorhamilton with various outings and events.

A trip to Eclipse Cinemas Bundoran to see Home Alone followed by a wonderful lunch in The Holyrood Hotel & The Spa At Orchids - Blue River Leisure Centre Bundoran.

Students performed NLN Hotel in The Glens Arts Centre Manorhamilton written by Joel Smith, directed by Paddy McEneaney from Exit does Theatre

Staff and students enjoyed their Christmas Jumper Day in centre as well as having their Christmas Lunch in OstaW8 Manorhamilton. Thank you to Maureen and all the staff at Osta for their hospitality.

We finished off with our Cairde Liatroma Christmas Party in McHugh's Bar Carrick on Shannon kindly organised by Carol in the Leitrim Development Company.

The staff and students would like to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and Best Wishes to all for 2026.
