For years,

the International Program
and the Israeli Program

have been part of the same department.

They've shared faculty,
events,
and a lot in between.

The only thing they didn't share
was Facebook.

(for some reason)

We're fixing that.

From now on, you'll find us here:

And on LinkedIn:

Turns out we were one department all along.

This week, students from our Emergency & Disaster Management Program took part in the “ Workshop” led by Access Israel- נגישות ישראל

Through simulations and hands-on activities, the students learned about the challenges people with physical, visual, hearing, and invisible disabilities may face during emergencies, along with practical tools for accessible communication and evacuation assistance.

The workshop gave students an important opportunity to experience these challenges from a different perspective and better understand the role of accessibility in emergency response.

A special thank you to the Access Israel team who led the workshop:
Michal Rimon, Merav Brumer, Ophelia Harel, Anita, Dafi, Gilad Hershkowitz, Adi Clinton, Julie, Tamara, and Eitan Negev.

Thank you for sharing your experience, knowledge, and personal perspectives with our students.

🎙 Faculty Spotlight | Public Health, Psychology, and Preparedness

Our Head of Department, Prof. Moran Bodas , recently took part in a thoughtful conversation with Prof. Bruce Rosen on his YouTube channel, Israel Health Highlights, addressing one of the most persistent challenges in public health and emergency management: why fear-based preparedness messaging so often fails.

Drawing on conflict psychology and Israel’s reality of chronic threat exposure, Prof. Bodas explains how denial and delayed action are not signs of public apathy, but adaptive psychological responses. The discussion highlights the need to move beyond fear-driven communication toward approaches that strengthen self-efficacy, agency, and community resilience.

The interview offers important insights for public health professionals, emergency managers, and policy makers seeking to design preparedness strategies that motivate action before crises unfold—while also reducing stress and disengagement.

We’re proud to see our department’s research and thinking contributing to critical conversations at the intersection of psychology, public health, and emergency preparedness.

Our Emergency and Disaster Management master’s students are currently taking part in a classroom exercise as part of the Introduction to Emergency and Disaster Management course.

The exercise compares the All Hazards Approach with the Top Hazards Approach, prompting team-based discussion on how different planning frameworks respond to today’s risk landscape.

A focused, practical discussion that encourages critical thinking and real-world decision-making in emergency and disaster management.

Today, students from the Israeli and International tracks of the Emergency and Disaster Management Department at the School of Public Health took part in a team-building workshop. No presentations and no theory, just learning through experience, movement, and working together.

The activities focused on coordination, clear communication, and solving problems as a team, sometimes under pressure. It quickly became clear that the best solutions don’t come from individuals, but from teamwork.

Throughout the workshop, students brought different working styles, rhythms, and approaches to the table, showing that there is more than one way to reach a solution. Along the way, teamwork, listening, and coordination proved to be key skills in moments that require quick thinking and decisions.

The workshop created an open and relaxed space for getting to know one another, sharing ideas, and enjoying plenty of humor, all through hands-on, shared experiences. A great way to connect students from both tracks and build a foundation for future collaboration.
