Ariel University congratulates Prof. Francis Halzen of the University of Wisconsin–Madison, recipient of the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics “for decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin.”

The achievement has special significance for Ariel University. Prof. Dafne Guetta, Professor of Physics and Head of International Affairs at Ariel University, has a scientific collaboration with Prof. Halzen in high-energy neutrino astrophysics that dates back more than two decades, including joint research on high-energy neutrinos and multimessenger astronomy.

Prof. Guetta continues to advance research in high-energy astrophysics, high-energy neutrinos and gravitational waves at Ariel University.

We congratulate Prof. Halzen on this extraordinary recognition and on helping to open a new window into our understanding of the universe. ✨

Ariel University mourns the loss of more than 1,200 men, women and children who were brutally murdered by the Hamas terrorist organization on October 7, 2023, and remembers the heroes of Israel who have fallen in the Swords of Iron War since that day.

Since October 7, Ariel University has lost 47 students and alumni.

We remember our students, alumni and members of staff who have fallen, honor the bravery of the soldiers, rescue forces and volunteers, and pray for the recovery of all those who were wounded.

How do we stop a nuclear mistake from becoming a nuclear catastrophe?

Dr. Ori Nissim Levy, nuclear defense researcher and lecturer in Ariel University’s Faculty of Engineering, recently spoke at and moderated a seminar in Herzliya examining nuclear near misses, verification and the growing role of artificial intelligence.

His presentation explored how false alarms, incomplete information and communication failures can create a pathway towards nuclear escalation and why human judgment remains essential.

“Artificial intelligence should help us question a nuclear warning - not make us obey it faster.”

The seminar was jointly organized by the Israeli Association for Military History and WNF-193 (World Nuclear Forum).

Ariel University students, together with their academic supervisors, represented the University at URSI GASS 2026 - the ###VI General Assembly and Scientific Symposium of the International Union of Radio Science, held in Kraków, Poland.

Throughout the week, members of the delegation presented their research through lectures and scientific posters, took part in professional discussions with researchers and experts from around the world, and explored some of the latest developments and technologies in radio science and wireless communications.

More than simply attending, our students and faculty were active participants in the international academic conversation. Asking questions, exchanging ideas and sharing their own research and expertise.

We’re proud to see Ariel University researchers contributing, connecting and representing the University on the global academic stage. 💙

Ariel University has launched AU Women’s Connect! A new initiative bringing international students together to build a supportive community, to share experiences, and develop activities around their interests and needs.

The first gathering explored women in academia, the challenges of being an international student, and what meaningful support looks like. Participants also learned about women’s rights and the prevention of sexual harassment in Israel, before sharing practical ideas for future meetings and activities.

The initiative reflects the commitment of Prof. Dafne Guetta, Head of Ariel University’s International Affairs Office, and Shimon Packer, Director of the International Affairs Office and Olim, to strengthening connections and a sense of belonging within our international student community.

With regular meetings and activities planned, students’ voices will help shape our community as it grows.

The Council for Higher Education has approved the opening of a six-year medical degree program at Ariel University.

In addition, approval has been granted for the launch of a Master’s degree program in Physician Associate Studies at Ariel University. A new profession representing a significant development in the world of medicine and healthcare.

Dr. Maya Lugasi Ben Hamo, Director General of the Council for Higher Education: “The shortage of physicians is one of the most significant challenges facing Israel’s healthcare system. The opening of the program will make it possible to increase the number of medical students and add dozens of new physicians to the healthcare system in each graduating class.”

The opening of the program expands the scope of medical education in Israel and is expected, over time, to increase the number of medical graduates entering Israel’s healthcare system and help address the growing need for physicians.

In addition, the Council for Higher Education has approved Ariel University’s Master’s degree program in Physician Associate Studies, the first academic program of its kind in Israel. The program represents a significant development in healthcare, and its launch marks an important step in integrating this new profession into Israel’s healthcare system.

The program is intended to help address workforce challenges in the healthcare system and expand the range of medical professionals working within it. The theoretical and clinical knowledge acquired by Physician Associates will enable them to work alongside specialist physicians within the healthcare system.

President of Ariel University, Prof. Ehud Grossman: “We view the training of the next generation of medical professionals as a national mission and a public responsibility of the highest order. The approval of these two new programs reflects confidence in the academic quality of Ariel University and enables us to expand our contribution to training outstanding medical professionals for the benefit of Israeli society.”

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Iris Barshack: “Today is an important and significant day for Israel’s healthcare system and for the Faculty of Medicine at Ariel University. The approval of these programs marks another significant step in the development of Ariel University’s Faculty of Medicine. It is a moment of achievement and pride, but above all, one of full commitment to meaningful work for the future generation of medicine and Israel’s healthcare system.”

Ariel University was pleased to welcome a delegation from Somaliland today for discussions on future academic, medical and research cooperation.

The delegation met with Ariel University Rector Prof. Albert Pinhasov and Prof. Iris Barshack, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, together with representatives from the University’s International Affairs Department and other faculty members.

Discussions explored opportunities for future collaboration in medicine, biomedical sciences, agriculture, environmental studies, higher education and research.

Prof. Pinhasov said:
“We would be delighted to welcome talented and motivated students from Somaliland to Ariel University and to explore opportunities for meaningful academic, medical and research cooperation with partners across Somaliland.”

The visit marks a positive step towards developing long-term academic partnerships, collaborative research and stronger ties between Somaliland and Israel through education, medicine and innovation.
