Hi everyone! My name is Estie Fried and I’m a proud Lower East Side of New Yorker. My siblings and I are second generation YU graduates. After attending Michlalah on YU’s S. Daniel Abraham Israel Program, I graduated Stern College with a degree in History. I then received my M.A. in Jewish History from and taught Jewish History and Tanach at YBH in Passaic, New Jersey, and Fuchs Mizrachi School in Cleveland, Ohio for a combined 15 years. I made Aliyah with my husband Ben and our children, and we live in Gvaot Eden/Eden Hills. As a member of the SDA Team I have loved working with our incredible students as they transition to their next stage in life. I can’t wait to meet everyone as you start your own YU journey.

Hi everyone! My name is Sara Grundwerg. I’m originally from Woodmere, New York and now live in Jerusalem. After completing a year at Midreshet Amit, I returned to America and received my bachelor’s degree in Education at Stern College. Afterward, while working as a teacher at Schechter Manhattan, I completed my master’s degree in Special Education at YU’s Wurzweiler School of Social Work. This is my third year working with YU’s SDA Team. I absolutely loved my years at YU and I cannot wait to meet you all and help you embark on your own YU journey!

Rabbi Jonathan Cohen attended Yeshivat Shaalvim and continued his learning at Yeshiva University, where he earned a BS in Accounting from the Sy Syms School of Business. Following graduation, Jonathan returned to Israel where he was a madrich in Yeshivat Reish*t Yerushalayim. Before joining the Israel Program staff as the Assistant Director of Admissions, Jonathan made aliyah with his wife Tzivia and their children to Yeshivat Shaalvim where he served for six years as a popular Shoel u-Maishiv. Using his energetic personality to liven up the Beit midrash, he developed strong relationships with many of the talmidim there and continues to inspire and aid students towards their journey to Yeshiva University. Jonathan has been working with YU over 13 years.

Hi. Rabbi Josh Frohlich here. I joined the  family as a 14 year old freshman at MTA  and never looked back. I studied in Israel on YU’s S. Daniel Abraham Israel Program for 2 years and then headed back to ’s WILF campus where I completed my undergraduate degree in Economics. After graduating, I learned for Semicha at , both in NY and in Israel on YU’s Gruss campus, while simultaneously earning my MSW at YU’s  of Social Work. I’ve been working with incoming YU students in Israel now for more than 15 years and it’s a distinct pleasure to lead what I like to call the SD-A-Team! I live in Ramat Bet Shemesh with my amazing wife and 5 awesome children and I look forward to connecting.

As we do each year, our Summer at YU Israel students are spending their time helping the people and State of Israel. They have been assisting with agricultural farming, and renovating homes in "Otef Aza" (gaza belt communities) to enable evacuated families to return as soon as possible. Many are also interning at Israeli companies and organizations to fill in for some of our workforce that has been so significantly impacted by the war since October 7. Yeshiva UniversityYeshiva University students have made multiple trips to Israel over the past 9 months to support and stand with Israel, to stengthen and be strengthened by our amazing nation. This week they were treated to an educational and moving visit to the national institutions. Hosted by my dear friends at the World Zionist Organization - ההסתדרות הציונית העולמית, Chairman Yaakov Hagoel and Eitan Behar, the students learned about Theodor Herzl's dream and vision and the history of the building, literally the birthplace of the government of our sovereign State of Israel. Chairman Hagoel reminded them all that no matter where they find themselves, Israel and the WZO are the home of every Jew throughout the world. We charged them to be our best ambassadors and to lead with lives of meaning and the values they learned at YU.
We thank our partners at the WZO for hosting us and for their support in making the summer Counterpoint Israel program a reality.
