I'm passionate about using communication to bridge the divide between countries and cultures. I believe that everyone has a role to play in making the world a better place.

As I continued my education, I developed a strong interest in politics and international relations. I decided to pursue a degree in public diplomacy, and I don't regret it!

Last week, our Public Diplomacy fellows took part in a unique two-day workshop with the world-renowned Lilyan Wilder Center for Communication Excellence, hosted by the CEO of the organization, Eva Rosenstein, and it was an incredible success! 🎓🎙️✨

The teachings of the center are rooted in the expertise of the communications expert, Lilyan Wilder. Having worked with some of the most notable public figures and broadcast correspondants, such as Oprah Winfrey, George W. Bush, and Benjamin Netanyahu, Lilyan's methods have proven to be highly effective in enhancing communication skills.

During Eva's workshop, which emphasized the vital importance of public speaking skills in today's fast-paced world, our fellows were empowered to become confident and effective speakers.

Throughout the workshop, they had the opportunity to:

✅ Overcome stage fright and nervousness.
✅ Craft engaging and persuasive speeches.
✅ Master the art of non-verbal communication.
✅ Utilize effective vocal techniques to captivate the audience.
✅ Develop compelling storytelling skills.
✅ Handle Q&A sessions with confidence and grace.
✅ Adapt to various speaking environments, including virtual platforms.

One of the most memorable aspects of the event were the interactive sessions. The fellows were able to put their newfound skills into practice within a supportive and encouraging environment. Through engaging in mock presentations and receiving real-time feedback, students gained invaluable experience, refining their abilities to connect with their audience in a truly impactful manner.

We extend our sincerest gratitude to Eva Rosenstein for gracing us with her presence and sharing her expertise with us. Having someone of Eva's stature guide us through this workshop was an honor and a privilege.

Hi! I'm Keren Dekel-Peter! I'm 22 years old, originally from Washington DC, and moved to Israel around 4 years ago. I am currently finishing up my bachelors degree in Communications and minor in Public Diplomacy at Reichman University - International School.

While I study politics and diplomacy I am also quite artistic and currently run my own photography business. I am extremely fascinated in the power that art and music have when it comes to helping create understanding in the realm of diplomacy.

Joining the Public Diplomacy Program was an honor as I was given a more modern and hands on outlook on the world of Public Diplomacy. I was given the opportunity to utilize my “nontraditional” interests such as art and music, in order to actually promote diplomacy.

Hi, my name is Reah Peleg, I am 27 years old originally from the United States. I am a 3rd-year Government student at אוניברסיטת רייכמן - Reichman University, majoring in Public Diplomacy and minoring in Counter-Terrorism.

After finishing high school in 2014, I moved to Israel and served three years as a combat soldier in the Givati Brigade. My love for Israel was always a constant theme in my life and consequently, I wanted to stay and study in Israel. I have always felt passionate about educating others about the complex reality we face in regard to life in this beautiful country. This is the reason why I choose to study government and major in public diplomacy. This year has been very beneficial, and by getting the opportunity to partake in this prestigious program and thus have been able to enhance my knowledge and understanding of the field.

Upon graduation, I aspire to serve as part of Israel’s diplomatic corps. I would like the opportunity to represent Israel in the International arena and also be able to learn about different countries and experience new cultures!

Last Thursday, the Public Diplomacy Fellows learnt of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in everyday life. The session was led by Mr. Raffi Shamir, the Head of the Media Operations Department at the Abba Eban Institute for Diplomacy - מכון אבא אבן לדיפלומטיה, and acting Head of Act-IL - Act for Israel.

Mr. Shamir discussed the different AI tools that are available for us to use. He noted that some of the most popular AI tools include:

- ChatGPT: ChatGPT is a large language model chatbot developed by OpenAI. ChatGPT can be used to create realistic and engaging conversations with the public.

- Bard: Bard is a large language model chatbot developed by Google AI. Bard can be used to generate text, translate languages, write different kinds of creative content, and answer your questions in an informative way.

- DALL•E: DALL•E was also developed by OpenAI and can be used to create images, videos, and music.

Mr. Shamir concluded by noting that AI is a powerful tool that also be used to improve public diplomacy. He encouraged the Public Diplomacy Fellows to learn more about AI and to consider how it can be used to achieve their public diplomacy goals.

What’s your favorite AI tool?

Hi my name is Joelle, I am 21 years old originally from Italy. It is my 3rd-year at אוניברסיטת רייכמן - Reichman University, majoring in Public Diplomacy and minoring in counter-terrorism.

Additionally, I am interning at Act-IL - Act for Israel for the second year in a row and at the Center for Jewish Impact. My passion for Israel advocacy and improving Israel’s image pushed me to apply to the Public Diplomacy Program. The ability to understand the tool box that a country has at their disposal to promote their image is a crucial capability, especially for Israel.

Next year I plan to pursue my MA in Cyber Politics and Government at Tel Aviv University, and later work in the cyber research and consulting sector.
My favourite quote is: “You don't have to be great to get started, but you do have to get started to be great" by Les Brown.
