🌍 Celebrating International Day of Women in Diplomacy
Meet Prof. Moran Yarchi, Head of the The Public Diplomacy Program, Head of the Digital Influence & Perceptions specialization at the Sammy Ofer School of Communication, a Senior Fellow at the Abba Eban Institute for International Diplomacy, and a Senior Researcher at the Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT) at Reichman University.
During her service in the IDF Spokesperson's Unit during the Second Intifada, Prof. Yarchi realized how deeply Israel's image and international legitimacy affect national security. That realization sparked a career dedicated to understanding how media, diplomacy, and conflict shape global perceptions.
Today, her research explores how political actors, states, and individuals use traditional and digital media to influence international audiences. She has witnessed firsthand how social media has transformed diplomacy, allowing anyone with a platform to participate in shaping global conversations.
Prof. Yarchi also emphasizes the growing role of women in diplomacy. While the field remains largely male-dominated, women continue to build engagement, mobilize support, and create legitimacy for important causes around the world. Since helping establish the Public Diplomacy Program in 2014, she has helped prepare students for careers across government, media, civil society, business, and academia by combining academic theory with hands-on experience.
Her advice to students is simple: combine knowledge with experience. Understanding the field is important, but real impact comes from putting that knowledge into practice.
