We are pleased to invite you to the Annual International Conference of the Center for Disability Studies, which this year will be devoted to the theme:
Disability in Times of Crisis: Violence, Technology, and Possibilities for Action
Tuesday, March 10, 2026 | 09:00–17:00
Hall 283, Paul Baerwald School of Social Work and Social Welfare
Mount Scopus Campus, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem
In light of the current realities of war, polarization, and instability in Israel and around the world, this year’s conference will focus on the complex intersections between disability, violence, and technology. The conference will address various forms of violence, including war, institutional violence, abuse, and more. It will examine the place of people with disabilities in situations of conflict, and explore how such conditions both produce disability and intensify the vulnerability of people with disabilities.
In addition, the conference will link violence to the ongoing revolution in artificial intelligence, asking how technological developments shape the lives of people with disabilities in times of crisis. The conference will also seek to offer critical tools for understanding these realities and for engaging with them.
This conference aims not only to present research and knowledge, but also to stimulate critical thinking and dialogue about current conditions and to encourage social change. It is intended for researchers and scholars, students, professionals, activists, and all those who wish to think together about a more equal and safer society for all - particularly for those who are more vulnerable among us.
