Join Dr. Petra Heldt for this fascinating study exploring how Western theology has never simply observed the Land of Israel from afar—it has wrestled with it, walked it, and woven it into doctrine. From early pilgrimages to contemporary politics, this course traces how the Land of Israel has shaped Christian thought—and how Christian thought has shaped understanding of the Land. Explore the sacred terrain where geography meets theology.

It’s with deep sadness that we share with that our beloved colleague and dear friend, Bishara Sahhar, passed away unexpectedly early Friday morning, 01 May 2026.

Bishara served JUC for 30 year. His loyalty, kindness, helpfulness, and professionalism were ever-present in his work with our local finances and business in Jerusalem. He was a dedicated employee, a compassionate colleague, and a very kind human being in every sense. He was always the first to step in and help no matter the situation, and his love for JUC was evident in everything he did. We will deeply miss him.

Bishara was also a loving and devoted father. In every conversation, he spoke about his children with pride and deep affection. Please pray for his family – Hala, Emile, Georgette, Jacob, and Natalie – during this very difficult time.

Living on a historic campus means taking care of it well.

Drs. Elaine and Perry Phillips organized a work party dedicated to giving attention and care to the Protestant Cemetery. Students joined in to repair Bishop Gobat’s visage and the Spafford grave, along with extensive weeding and general yard work.

Their efforts made a visible difference, but more importantly, they helped honor individuals who are deeply meaningful to the JUC community. Grateful for the hands that showed up to serve and steward this space so well.
