IBEX Israel

IBEX Israel For IBEXim, friends and family to keep up with the current IBEX semester. Their impression is wrong."

"It's not if you come to IBEX, it's when." - Dr. William Varner

The Master's University Israel Bible Extension (IBEX) program was founded in 1995 as a semester-abroad, in-depth study of the Scripture based on experiencing the land, culture, and language of the Bible first hand. Students are afforded the opportunity to live, travel, and study in the land for three months, where the combination of

study and hands-on experience is unequalled. Doug Bookman, co-founder of the IBEX program, has been known to comment, "Everyone has an impression of the land of the Bible before they come. "The best thing we can do to teach students is to get them on site. We want to get them there so they can see that these are real places, where real people were involved in real events with real consequences. It reinforces the fact that the God of the Bible is real and true." - Dr. Jason Beals (IBEX Director)

Well, after a very unpredictable and trial-some semester, IBEX sp26 is over! This was a fantastic group and we are so glad that the Lord brought about the trials He did to sanctify His people. After the initial ceasefire, this group got a blitz of travel and sites in about a 2 week period. Some of the places were Masada, The Dead Sea, and Caesarea, and then they ended their time going to Jordan and then Greece. In Greece they saw various sites with Dr. Beals and his wife Steph joining them for the final portion of the trip before heading back to the States.
So many fun memories and things that will stick with the group for a long time, it was truly a blessing! Until next semester! 🙌

We spent this past week in the North of Israel.

We stayed right near the Sea of Galilee and followed many of the events from the life of Jesus. We were in the Synagogue He preached in (John 6:59), the cliff edge that the people from His home-town tried to push Him off (Luke 4:16,28-30) and much more. The students readily agreed that this was a very special and impactful time especially as the semester draws to a close in less than a week.

The question that was asked to set the tone for this trip was: Why did God see it fit for this region in Israel to be the place where the majority of Jesus’ ministry took place? In other words, why did Jesus mainly come to Galilee and not Jerusalem?

One of the students had a great idea to have an “IBEX Thanksgiving” and everyone contributed by cooking, baking, or decorating and this was the amazing result.

We were reminded in this time also that all of our thanksgiving is given to our God and Father who opens His hand to satisfy the desire of every living thing. We thank Him ultimately for the unity we all have in His Son Jesus.

We spent this past week in the Negev, not only was the time very edifying from the teaching, but the group bonded deeply in Christ during the time in the South. We were also joined by Dr. and Mrs. Beals— Who were a joy to be around!

A recurring theme from the week that we encouraged one another with was the reality from Ezekiel 47:1–12 that God will cause water to flow out from the temple in the millennial kingdom to go into the dry desert and bring for the first time ever, fruitfulness, fresh water, and trees to the unforgiving dry desert for the enjoyment of His people.

It has been an eventful last week! We learned about the region of our Lord’s temptation and conquering, the major Benjamite cities and their significance to the life’s of David, Samuel and others, along with heading south to Hebron where the “3 men” approached Abram by the Oaks of Mamre in Gen. 18.
The students have had a great time and are getting along great while increasing in their knowledge and love of God.
We are just getting started and excited for the coming weeks!

A major theme from this week can be summed up by
Ps. 37:3-5 “Trust in the LORD and do good;
Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the LORD;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the LORD,
Trust also in Him, and He will do it.”
