Hello, my name is Tamerlan Marmer. Iโm 21 years old, and originally from Azerbaijan. I made aliyah in August 2025, and currently study in the Mechina preparatory program at the Rothberg International School.
I came to The Hebrew University of Jerusalem to find the best possible combination of student life and education. While I am currently in the Mechina, my goal is to transition into the Faculty of Law to study criminology in Hebrew. Having that academic path available here is a game-changer for me and was a major factor in my decision to study at HUJI, since itโs not a program broadly available as a first degree in many places.
The professors, staff, and fellow students at HUJI are incredibly friendly and always willing to help with whatever you need. It creates a supportive environment that makes the transition to a new country much easier.
A moment where I felt a strong sense of belonging was during our Rosh HaShana celebrations. Seeing everyone come together and share that happiness with one another was a special experience that made me feel like I was exactly where I was supposed to be.
Outside of my studies, I stay active by going to the gym. I also spend a lot of time playing football with friends through the Tazuz programs, where I used to be the captain of the Rothberg team. I also enjoy reading about politics and psychology to stay engaged with the subjects I'm passionate about.๏ปฟ
