The Hebrew University of Jerusalem continues to lead Israeli academia on the global stage. 🏆

In the 2026 ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, HUJI secured four spots among the world’s top 50 disciplines, ranking 17th in Communication, 24th in Mathematics, 36th in Law, and 44th in Public Administration.

Overall, our institution achieved exceptional results with seven subjects placing in the global top 100 and 13 among the top 150.

New Olim: Want to Improve Your Academic Hebrew? Planning to Study in Israel?

Whether you are preparing to start a BA or an MA or need to improve your Hebrew to the highest possible level, the TAKA pre-academic program at the Rothberg International School at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem provides the academic Hebrew and study skills needed for success in higher education and in life in Israel.

Held on our Mount Scopus campus, this five-month program combines intensive Hebrew studies with academic coursework, English instruction, personal guidance, and social activities ensuring participants become familiar with Israeli culture and student life.

This month, we're proud to feature Sally Shami, a Hebrew University alumna whose career reflects a deep commitment to community empowerment, social entrepreneurship, and creating meaningful impact.

Since graduating with an MA in Non-profit Management and Leadership in 2017, Sally has built an inspiring career across the non-profit and social enterprise sectors. Today, she serves as a Resource Development Manager at The Lutheran World Federation while also leading Salam, a social enterprise that empowers Palestinian women artisans and preserves traditional cultural heritage.

Her time at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem helped shape the career she has built today.

At the center of every Rosh Hashanah table sits the pomegranate, a traditional symbol of abundance, opportunities, and wisdom.

At the Rothberg International School, this symbolism greets our community every day. Standing in the courtyard is a kinetic sculpture titled "Olam U'Mlo'o" ("The Whole World"), created by Israeli artist David Gerstein.

We asked David about the vision behind the piece:

"The thought was to combine the image of Earth and the pomegranate fruit, recognized in Jewish tradition as a symbol of wisdom. Therefore, at the upper edge of the globe, I designed a crown like that of a pomegranate. Inside the hollow body, I created an axis with arms to the sides, at the ends of which are round plates painted with concentric circles simulating points of dwellings across Earth. Alternatively, these could resemble the pomegranate seeds inside the fruit."
