הקתדרה לזכויות אדם ע"ש אמיל זולא הוקמה במטרה לחזק את שיח זכויות האדם בישראל, לתרום להפצתו ולקדם ההכרה בזכויות האדם.
הקתדרה הוקמה בשנת 2012 בבית הספר למשפטים ע"ש חיים שטריקס, במסלול האקדמי המכללה למינהל. הקתדרה שואפת לקדם את שיח זכויות האדם והפצתו באמצעות מגוון פעילויות דוגמת כנסים, קבוצות מחקר, תמיכה בחוקרים צעירים ומנוסים ופרויקטים בינתחומיים.
הקתדרה נקראה על שמו של אמיל זולא כהוקרה על פעולתו לש
מירה על זכויות האדם של האחר, תוך ויתור על הכרה וידיעה שמעשיו יהפכו אותו לבוגד בארצו. אמיל זולא, סופר בן המאה ה-19 הגן על דרייפוס, קצין יהודי שהואשם על לא עוול בכפו. בכך הוכיח זולא, כי אין כל סתירה בין אהבת המולדת ונאמנות לה, לשמירה על זכויותיו של האחר.

It does so through interdisciplinary educational, cultural and research activities; dissemination of relevant information; support for and cooperation with NGOs committed to human rights and the encouragement of individuals in Israel whose work for human rights is exemplary. Establishing the Emile Zola Chair for Human Rights not only reflects a moral duty and pays a debt of honor, it also serves as a reminder, a model and a sign of hope: it is to remind the Israeli society that the national enterprise need not be carried out at the expense of a humanistic commitment to marginalized communities and that its own very existence has been thus nourished. It is a model for a courageous personal life, a meaningful life. It is a sign of hope because it has carried the day in the past, and can do so in the future.
