We are pleased to share that Dr. Subhadip Roy, Department of Chemistry, The ICFAI University Tripura, has co-authored a research article published in Polyhedron (Elsevier):

“Substituent-driven supramolecular assembly in Hg(II) bromide complexes with pyridine-based hydrazone ligands: crystal structures, Hirshfeld surface analysis, and DFT/QTAIM study”

This work is a collaborative effort involving researchers from institutions in Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Italy, Turkey, and India, including The ICFAI University Tripura. The study examines how substituent variation on pyridine-based hydrazone ligands directs the solid-state organization of Hg(II) bromide complexes.

Combining single-crystal X-ray crystallography, Hirshfeld surface analysis, and DFT/QTAIM calculations, the article shows how modest changes at the ligand periphery reshape non-covalent contacts and the resulting supramolecular architecture.

Heartiest congratulations to Dr. Tufan Singha Mahapatra, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, his PhD scholar Mr. Biswajit Dey, former PhD scholar Dr. Bilash Chandra Roy, and M.Sc. student Ms. Mukta Gan Choudhuri on their recent publication in Inorganica Chimica Acta (Elsevier; SCI-indexed; Impact Factor: 3.3). The study reports the synthesis and characterization of a mononuclear, Jahn–Teller-distorted, high-spin Mn(III) Schiff-base complex and explores its potential as a biomimetic oxidation catalyst. Advanced characterization and theoretical studies were conducted in collaboration with Dr. Somnath Bej of IISER Kolkata, Dr. Dipmalya Basak of NIT Sikkim, and Dr. Susanta Ghanta of NIT Agartala.

Hearty congratulations to Principal Investigator Dr. Tufan Singha Mahapatra (PI), Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry and Co-Investigators Dr. Saheli Roy, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry and Mr. Srinjoy Roy, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, on being awarded financial assistance by the Directorate of Biotechnology, Government of Tripura, for their College Biotech Club Project Proposal.
The project aims to address the growing challenge of organic micropollutants in natural water bodies in and around Agartala through the development of a smart luminescent sensor for simple, rapid, and on-site visual detection.
