Another shining star was added to the constellation of the Department of Botany, Dr. Naseem Ahmad has conferred with the prestigious Professor Hira Lal Chakravaty Award in the 106th Indian Science Congress for his significant contribution in plant sciences. The congress was held at Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar, Punjab, from 3-7 th January, 2019 and was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India.

Dr. Naseem has successfully completed 4 projects in the department with net worth of more than 80 Lacs, sponsored by Council of Science and Technology (CST-UP), Government of Uttar Pradesh, Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India. He also serves as a member in the Editorial Boards of several journals, holds Life Membership of many Learned/ Scientific Societies and is a Fellow of The Indian Botanical Society (FBS). He has been recognized widely and is recipient of several awards and honors including Yuva Vaigiyanik Samman (2009), CST, UP; Young Scientist Award (2010) by National Environmental Science Academy, New Delhi, Rashtriya Gaurav Award (2015) by India International Friendship Society, New Delhi and Young Scientist of the year (2015) by International Foundation for Environment and Ecology (IFEE), Kolkata.

22-SEP-2018: AMU Prof Nafees A Khan selected for 'Teaching Excellence Award-2018'

Aligarh, September 22: Professor Nafees Ahmad Khan, Chairperson, Department of Botany, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been selected for 'Teaching Excellence Award-2018' by MT Research and Education Services (MTRES). MTRES recognizes and honours faculty, in collaboration with www.buzzigg.com and www.indiaachivers.com, who demonstrate continuous potential and excellence in research and teaching.

Prof Khan has a rich teaching experience of 28 years in subjects like Advanced Plant Physiology and other plant sciences to under-graduate and post-graduate students.

Recently Prof Khan was conferred with UGC-Research Award and UGC-Mid Career Award. His research is about understanding the mechanisms of hormonal and nutritional regulation of plant growth. It has revealed that phytohormones (gibberellic acid, ethylene, salicylic acid, nitric oxide and jasmonates) play the most prominent role in affecting nutrient assimilation, and regulation of antioxidant defence system thereby enhancing abiotic stress tolerance.

He has contributed immensely in research and has publications in the most reputed journals of plant science.

Prof Khan has supervised 15 Ph.D. and 05 M.Phil. He has published 16 books from publishers like Elsevier, Springer, CRC Press, NOVA, Alpha Science, and about 170 research papers in the journals of international repute with a total impact factor of above 200, citation of 6870 and h-index 41 (Google Scholar).

A Group Leader of the DBT-BUILDER programme of Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, He has successfully completed many research projects, sponsored by DBT, DST, UGC and UP-CST.

Prof Khan has also been associated with the university administration as Provost and Assistant Proctor.
