Professor Zaheeruddin appointed as AMU Pro Vice Chancellor

Aligarh, September 1: Former Dean, Faculty of Law and current Chairman Department of Law, Professor Zaheeruddin has been appointed as the Pro Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) till further orders and in addition to his own current duties. The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Professor Tariq Mansoor appointed Professor Zaheeruddin in his new role on the behalf of the Executive Council.

In addition to his notable academic experience, Prof Zaheeruddin has contributed significantly to corporate life of the University with administrative duties such as the Chief Election Officer to the AMU Students Union, the Executive Council, the Academic Council and the AMU Court. He also served as the Provost of Aftab Hall for two-years and as Warden of various residential halls for ten years. He was NRSC Warden for two years.

With a teaching and research career spanning over three decades in Labour Law, Commercial Law, Administrative Law, Transfer of Property Law and Civil Procedure Code; Prof Zaheeruddin also authored books such as 'Labour Welfare Laws and Employment Conditions (Deep and Deep Publications, New Delhi)', 'Cases and Material on Labour Law (Faculty of Law, AMU, Aligarh, 2003)' and 'Constitutional Safeguards Against Workers' Exploitation (Upright Publications and Indian Young Lawyers Association, Delhi)'. He was the patron of international peer-reviewed, 'Transcendence', a bi-annual Refereed Journal Vol. 1. June 2015.

Prof Zaheeruddin's distinguished career includes significant roles as examiner for Rajasthan Judicial Services in 2004 and Professor and Principal at Bhai Gurdas College of Law, Sangrur in Punjab. He is also a permanent member of the Board of Studies, Department of Law, Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, Rampur, Uttar Pradesh.

He has supervised over 40 dissertations and produced six Phds in different areas including Coalition Government and Article 356, Equal Pay for Equal Work with special Reference to India and UK, Standard Form Contact: A Study of Judicial Response, Bonded Labour System in India, Women Rights under Indian Labour Law and Employee's Ins

Vice Chancellor hands over acclaimed SILF-MILAT INSTITUTIONAL EXCELLENCE AWARD – 2019 to the Department of Law.

Aligarh, October 31: Prof. Tariq Mansoor, Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), handed over the SILF-MILAT INSTITUTIONAL EXCELLENCE AWARD – 2019, to Prof. Zaheeruddin, Dean, Faculty of Law and Prof. Javaid Talib, Chairman, Department of Law. The award was received by the Vice-Chancellor at an even in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on the occasion of Law Teachers Day, 7th September, 2019.

The award is given for maintaining exceptional academic standards and making legal education contemporary and professionally viable in the new age challenges.

The award is given by Society of Law Firms (SILF) and Menon Institute of Legal Advocacy
Training (MILAT). Mr. Piyush Chawla (Vice President, Law Society) and Mr. Faham Ahmed Khan (Secretary, Law Society) the student body members of Faculty of Law (the Law Society) was also present on the occasion, among others.

Prof. Zaheeruddin, Dean, Faculty of Law, said that the award is the recognition of the hard-work of the students, faculty members and all people involved at the Faculty of Law.

Prof. Javaid Talib, Chairman, Department of Law, said that the award will boost the morale of the students and the faculty members to outgrow their expectations yet again in the session 2019-20. He also pointed out that 26 students of the Department of Law were selected in Uttar Pradesh Judicial Services this year which is a great feat for the department and an apt reward for the student’s hard- work and toil.

October 31,2019: The Editorial Board of the Law Society released the AMU Law Society Review 2018-19 and AMU Law Society Newsletter 2018-19 today at the Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge. The Hon’ble VC, Dean, Chairman, Vice President, Secretary of the Law Society were in attendance. The Chief Editor Mr. Suhail Khan and his team of Joint Editors, Mr. Areebuddin Ahmed, Mr. Mohd. Arman, Ms. Naba Khan, Mr. Md. Asadullah and Ms.Mallika Kapoor were present at the release and it is due to their hard-work and determination that the Review and Newsletter have received high praises and acclaim from the academicians. Copies of both are available at the Seminar Library, Departement of Law.

01-JUN-2019: India Today-MDRA survey: AMU departments and faculties among top notch

Aligarh, June 1: With several Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) departments and faculties squarely placed in the top notch of India universities, the country-wide competitive rankings framework, India Today-MDRA survey has again put AMU among the best Universities of the country in their 2019 rankings.

The faculty of law of AMU has been placed on the first rank in the list of government colleges with the best value for money and first in the list of government colleges with the least tuition fees and eighth among top 10 law colleges and universities.

The department of mass communication was placed second in the University/College with lowest tuition fees and it bagged 15 position in the top 35 best colleges and universities of the country.

Department of social work sits comfortably at the first rank in colleges with the lowest tuition fees, first among colleges offering highest salaries in on-campus placements and 11th among top 35 colleges of social work in India.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) has secured 18th rank among top 40 medical colleges, while Dr Z A Dental College (ZADC) is ranked 16th rank in top 40 dental colleges. ZADC has also got the first position among government dental colleges with lowest fees.

Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET) with the 16th rank in the 30 engineering colleges has also secured the second spot among government colleges with the best value for money and government colleges with the least tuition fees. The department of architecture of the college is on the 13th rank in 25 best architecture colleges.

Faculty of life sciences is on the 41st rank in the list of 120 colleges, while faculty of arts was ranked 44th in 119 best colleges of arts. Department of commerce has been placed 58th among 145 commerce colleges.

Speaking on rankings, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor said: "The emphasis of AMU is on innovation and research and with persistent efforts; various departments and faculties are in the top notch of Indian universities. The infrastructure in AMU has grown a lot and there is focus on mentoring."

"AMU will keep on marching ahead steadily, with unflinching resolve for the future of the nation," he added.

Thanking the University administration for support and encouragement, Prof M Salim Beg (Chairman, Committee for Ranking of the University) said AMU has proved its mettle and strength required to be in one of the foremost Indian universities.
