Indian Istitute of Geomorphologists (IGI) is a National Level Platform for Geomorphologists and Earth Scientists to share their views, expertise and research experiences. The birth of IGI was the realisation of the idea conceived by some of the eminent geographers of India during the ‘International Conference on Geomorphology & Environment’ held in Jan 1987 at the Geography Department, University

of Allahabad. This international conference, being attended by more than two hundred delegates from European countries and various parts of India, provided the platform to discuss the formation such a formal group of geomorphologists of India. After long brainstorming sessions the general house meeting of all the participants in the conference was called and the modalities were finalised on 19th January, 1987. And thus, IGI came into existence with the following objectives:
• To bring all the Earth Scientists dealing with geomorphology and allied disciplines on a common platform under the banner of IGI,
• To hold annual conferences at the different places across the India,
• To publish a research journal,
• To coordinate researches being carried out in the field of geomorphology and allied disciplines in different universities and institutes of India,
• To encourage young research scholars doing research in geomorphology, and
• To give more emphasis on researches related to human society and its welfare.
