Disaster Management and Mitigation (DMM) Programme, Sree Sankaracharyacharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, Cochin, successfully organized 10-day student field camp in association with Upputhara Gramma Panchayat of Idukki district, Kerala, from November 6 to 16, 2023. A team of 30 students from the first semester DMM programme and Geography dept. investigated and mapped hazard risks and social vulnerabilities in all 18 wards of the Panchayat during the ten-day camp. Mr. James K Jacob, Upputhara Panchayat President, and Mr. Sreekumar, Panchayat Secretary, facilitated by providing facilities for conducting the camp, making it a grand success.

One day pre camp orientation programme conducted for the Ist semester Disaster Management and Mitigation (DMM) students. Dr.Saju T.S, Dr. Nandukumar D and Reshma Bharadwaj who are the faculties of Geography and Social Work departments engaged with students to sensitise the field ethics and camp strategies to be adopted during the community camp.

To mark 13th October as the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction Day, students of the Disaster Management and Mitigation (DMM) Programme, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, Cochin, Kerala, became part of various programmes of 13th October 2023. The day's programming began with a Webinar on Building Resilience in a Changing Climate hosted by GeoHazard International for disaster management students. It was followed by community sensitization programmes conducted by the students, such as public lectures, flash mobs, street play and exhibitions in collaboration with the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA). Two-day Induction Programme for students of the Multidisciplinary Masters Programme in Disaster Management and Mitigation of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady Cochin, Kerala, was held on August 10-11, 2023. The technical sessions kicked off with Ms. Annie George, Senior Disaster Management Professional, followed by an interaction with Mr. Vinu Veyil, Social Activist.
