Guru Nanak Dev University was established at Amritsar on November 24, 1969 to mark the 500th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The University is successfully catering to twenty thousand students in various faculties at University Campuses and Constituent Colleges. The University has won the highest sports Award in the country, the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy, for a record of 21 times.

The Placement Department in Guru Nanak Dev University was established in March 1998 to cater to the needs of university students for their placements in various institutions/organizations-both Govt. The Department is a centralized facility to assist the placement of the students of all the campuses viz. Amritsar, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur, Sathiala, Sultanpur Lodhi and constituent colleges. It looks after academic and career counselling of students and organizes seminars, workshops and industrial training relating to job openings in various sectors.

Directorate of Placement & Career Enhancement, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, successfully organized a special student interaction road drive and seminar highlighting various career opportunities in the Indian Air Force (IAF). The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students representing diverse departments of the University. The Indian Air Force team comprised Wing Commander Daxina Dhasmana, Defence Psychologist, Sq. Leader Abhimanyu Kadyan and Flight Lt. Gursharan Singh and other team members.

As part of the drive, the IAF showcased its specially designed Induction Publicity Exhibition Vehicle (IPEV) – a state-of-the-art, modified Volvo bus equipped to present an immersive experience of life and careers in the Air Force. The mobile exhibition brought the essence of the IAF directly to the University’s doorstep, featuring interactive displays, videos, and information modules on different branches and roles within the force.

During the seminar, senior officers from the IAF provided in-depth insights into various entry pathways, training programs, and career progression opportunities available to young graduates and postgraduates. The interaction aimed to inspire students to consider the Indian Air Force as a dynamic and prestigious career choice, while also addressing their queries about eligibility, selection processes, and life in service.

Directorate of Placement & Career Enhancement in coordination with Life Long Learning Department organised a workshop on the topic of “Beauty for Better Life” under the CSR of Loreal implemented by Naandi Foundation. Workshop offered 40 hours of free training for Cosmetology and Beauty culture to the students of Life Long Learning Department. The students were trained on the said domain and life skills. More than 50 students have undergone the skill training from an Industry expert.

Under this program Loreal students Kits were distributed under CSR activity of Loreal and implemented by NAANDI Foundation to the students of Life Long Learning Department after the successful completion of the program. These kits will help students to start their career in the professional world.

The Department of Life Long Learning is providing quality vocational education to the youth. The main focus of the department is to provide vocational education especially to the women coming from weaker section of society to make them self-reliant. Department offers skill based courses like cosmetology and beauty culture certificate course for six months and one year Diploma course.

The field of cosmetology includes various occupations like hair stylist, hair dresser, makeup artist, skin care specialist, nail technician etc. A cosmetologist can get employed in several industries and may also get self-employed. The demand of cosmetologist is on a high rise in the fashion world. Mr. Tarun Sharma, Program Manager Naandi foundation coordinated successfully the various skill based events with the university.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Karamjeet Singh appreciated the efforts of the Directorate of Placement & Career Enhancement and the Department of Life Long Learning for conducting this workshop. Directorate of Placement & Career Enhancement successfully organized a campus placement drive with IDBI Bank for MBA students of the 2025 graduating batch. A team of five senior representatives from IDBI Bank visited the GNDU campus to conduct interviews, resulting in the selection of 10 students. These students secured job offers with an annual pay package ranging from ₹6.14 lakh to ₹6.50 lakh and will commence their roles after completing their courses in June 2025. Selected students belong to University School of Financial Studies (USFS), University Business School (UBS) and GNDU College Jalandhar.
