DJMC holds hands-on sessions for freshers on 2nd day of induction program

Awantipora, August 20: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC), Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), organised a series of hands-on training sessions for newly admitted Master’s and Bachelor’s students on the second day of its skill-oriented induction programme. The sessions were designed to provide the freshers with practical exposure to various aspects of media production and enhance their professional competencies.

For students of the BA FYUGP, a hands-on training session on camera handling and video editing was conducted at the iMac Media Lab and outdoor locations. The session was coordinated by Mr. Zahoor Ahmad, Technical Assistant, DJMC, providing students an opportunity to gain practical experience in camera operations, shooting techniques and video editing workflows. The students also attended a documentary screening at the Media Lab as part of the day’s programme.

Meanwhile, MA students participated in a hands-on training session in radio production at the Community Radio Station. The session conducted by Junaid Rahid Bhat, Programming Assistant, and RJ Najmus Saqib, familiarised students with the practical aspects of radio production and broadcasting, enabling them to apply classroom learning in a real-world media environment.

Earlier, Dr. Rabia Noor, Head, DJMC, informed the students that the department has been laying emphasis on experiential and practice-based learning to equip students with the technical, creative and professional skills required to navigate the rapidly evolving media landscape.

The initiative reflects DJMC’s commitment to strengthening industry-oriented learning and providing students with meaningful opportunities to develop practical expertise alongside academic knowledge.
