Committed to excellence in education. Ours is a rural college situated in the district of Purba Medinipur in South Bengal. It was founded on September 03, 1964 as a Government Sponsored College under Calcutta University. It has come under the purview of Vidyasagar University since 1985. To the local people in general, and the educationists in particular, this college is a long-cherished dream whic
h has come true. Many persons of the locality donated their land and money liberally for this noble cause. Late Abha Maity, the then Hon’ble Minister of the Govt. of West Bengal (who later became a Central Minister) steered the activities for establishing the college with the able assistance of many patrons and donors like Late Subodh Chandra Maifty, Late Amiya Kumar Maity, Late Khagendranath Samanta, Late Sristidhar Pradhan, Late Jogendranath Pradhan and others. The institution remains ever grateful to them. Since its birth, the college has been growing healthily. It is developing slowly but surely. It is easily accessible to students of all walks of society. Students hailing from the financially weaker sections of the society have been immensely benefited by this college and their dream of higher education has been translated into reality. At present honours courses in 15 subjects and general courses in 20 subjects at the undergraduate level are being offered in this college. Its unique feature is a self-financing course in Automobile Maintenance. The present students’ strength of the college is about 3200. The performance of our pupils in the University Examinations has been all along quite satisfactory. Innumerable students have been established in life by securing jobs in the academic and corporate world, in the public as well as private sectors, in banks and companies etc. The noble ideals of social service, patriotism, universal brotherhood and moral integrity are inculcated among the students by the teaching faculty and the management. The three NSS units of the college have been rendering invaluable service to the society by organizing blood donation camp, holding seminars on health-hazards and striving to eradicate illiteracy, dowry, superstitions etc. from the society. In near future we aspire to open the post graduate wing of the college in several subjects. We know that our final destination is still a long way and we have no scope for self-complacence. We are conscious that we “have promises to keep” and “miles to go before we sleep”. The Vedic message of ‘Charaibeti’ is the source of perennial inspiration to us. We are optimistic enough to think that the college will fully develop in all respects despite all handicaps and shine like an ever-bright star in the firmament of higher education to illumine the precious lives of many youths of this locality in days to come.
