MA English Students Excel in GNDU Results
Students of the Department of English, Sikh National College, Banga, have once again brought pride to the institution through their outstanding performance in the December 2025 examinations conducted by Guru Nanak Dev University. Parwinder Kaur and Jasdeep Kaur, students of MA English Semester III, secured the joint third position in the university and stood first in SBS Nagar district. Their remarkable achievement has added another feather to the cap of the college and the Department of English. On this occasion, the students were felicitated by Principal Dr. Tarsem Singh, who congratulated them on their hard work and dedication. Appreciating their achievement, he said, “The success of our students reflects the academic excellence and disciplined environment of the college. Such achievements inspire other students to pursue their goals with commitment and sincerity.” Head of the Department of English, Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma, also expressed his happiness and praised the students for their consistent efforts. He remarked, “Parwinder Kaur and Jasdeep Kaur have brought honour not only to the department but also to the entire district. Their achievement is a testimony to perseverance, regular study, and academic passion.” Prof. Kishore Kumar and Preet Kanwal were also present during the felicitation ceremony and congratulated the students on their excellent performance. The faculty members expressed confidence that the students would continue to excel in their academic journey and bring further glory to the institution.

The Post Graduate Department of English organized an emotionally resonant Farewell Function 2026, where the students of M.A. English Semester II extended a heartfelt adieu to their seniors of M.A. English Semester IV. The event was marked by an admixture of solemn reflection, celebration, and literary homage. The function commenced with the formal arrival and warm welcome of the esteemed Principal, Dr. Tarsem Singh, whose presence added dignity and inspiration to the occasion. The programme began on an auspicious note with a welcome address delivered by Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Head of the Department. In his thoughtful address, he encouraged students to navigate the evolving and often challenging contemporary landscape with resilience, responsibility, and intellectual integrity. He also conveyed his heartfelt best wishes to the outgoing students, expressing confidence in their future accomplishments. In his address, Dr. Tarsem Singh lauded the Department of English for its consistent academic vibrancy and the students for their commendable initiative in organizing the event. He extended greetings to the department on the dual occasion of English Language Day and World Book and Copyright Day, underscoring the enduring relevance of literature in shaping critical thought and cultural consciousness. The function witnessed the gracious presence of faculty members, including Prof. Kishore Kumar, Prof. Onkar Singh Sidhu, Prof. Manpreet Kaur, Prof. Preet Kanwal, Prof. Manpreet Kaur S. and Prof. Sunny Amrender Singh. A special mention must be made of the students of M.A. English Semester II—Yuvraj, Kanchan, Tamanna, Mandeep, Harjit,-- and Manpreet Singh and Kulpreet Singh of MA English Sem. IV, whose dedication, creativity, and organizational efforts ensured the grand success of the event. Their enthusiastic participation infused the programme with energy and warmth, making it a memorable experience for all present. A significant highlight of the function was the collective tribute paid to William Shakespeare, the greatest playwright in the English language, on the occasion of his birth anniversary. Dr. Tarsem Singh, Principal, Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Head of the Department, faculty members, and students came together to honor his unparalleled contribution to world literature. The farewell function concluded on an emotional yet hopeful note, as the juniors expressed their admiration and affection for their seniors, while the outgoing students reminisced about their enriching academic journey. I had the privilege of serving as a Resource Person at the one-day International Conference on “Digital Literacy and Language Competence in the 21st Century” organized by the Department of English, Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, on April 07, 2026.
