Institute of Agri Business Management, Bangalore (erstwhile Department of Agricultural Marketing Co-operation and Business Management) was established during the year 1975-76 by the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. 5-76 by the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore to create human resources capable of effectively dealing with the issues relating to agricultural marketing, co-operation, agricultural finance, trade, banking, etc. (Agricultural Marketing and Co-operation), the first of its kind in the country was started during 1976-77. After some years, a Masters programme in the stream of Agricultural Marketing and Co-operation was started during 1995-96, in order to extend the scope of subject matter in the research arena. During 2007-08, Institute started to offer MBA in Agribusiness Management in collaboration with the MANAGE, Hyderabad which enhanced the reputation of the institute manifold and till date it is considered to be one of the flagship programmes of the University. In a bid to achieve academic excellence in the stream of Agribusiness Management, Institute has started to offer Doctoral Programme in Agribusiness Management from 2019-20. (Hons) Agribusiness Management from 2020-21 onwards with appropriate changes in the syllabus to suit industry requirements has proved to be a landmark decision as this has enabled the Institute to provide a three-level specialisation the stream of Agribusiness Management viz. (ABM) < MBA (ABM) < Ph. So far, 41 batches comprising of 1118 students have successfully completed the Under Graduate Degree Programme from the Institute. Agricultural Marketing & Co-operation. These Graduates have been employed in Central and State Governments (Department of Agricultural Marketing and Department of Co-operation); Banking Sector (Commercial Banks and RRBs); public, co-operative and private institutions concerned with agri-input and output marketing, agribusiness and rural development. Of late, the graduates are also being recruited by organised retail sector. Some of them have completed their Post-Graduation from premier institutes such as IIM’s, IRMA, MANAGE, NAARM, NIAM, IIPM, VAMNICOM etc. The MBA (Agribusiness Management) program has already completed 13 years of its existence and has created a rich and diversified pool of Agribusiness industry-fit graduates. The distinguished performance of the Alumni in the industry has been the torchbearers to the new aspirants who are entering this programme. The students are trained to adapt to the ever-challenging roles as they step into Agribusiness companies and keep abreast of latest development and innovations in agribusiness, governance and policies. Since its inception in 2007, the department has achieved 100% placement year after year. The course curriculum is revised as per ICAR guidelines after taking feedback from the Agribusiness industry, consultants and experts from the field. Besides, new courses are introduced keeping in mind the latest changes and innovations emerging in the area. This helps in incorporating the latest concepts and paradigms into the curriculum even as the world is awakening to the need. The Doctoral programme is aimed to craft professional business leaders, entrepreneurs and academicians in the food and agri-business sectors. The candidates successfully completing the Ph.D. in Agribusiness Management in the department are mentored to be skilled professionals in the area of Agribusiness management to understand the agricultural business environment and to provide tandem support for decision making. Further after successful completion of the course, candidates are capable of developing a successful and satisfying career in academia, government or industry. All the faculty members of the Department are Doctoral Degree holders with rich teaching experience in the areas of Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Marketing, Business Economics, Co-operation, International Trade, Marketing Management, Operations and Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, Business Analytics, Organizational Behaviour and Financial management. The faculty members have published research papers, books, business articles in reputed and peer reviewed publications. They are the proud recipients of academic excellence awards like ICAR-Best Teacher Award, Young Scientist Award etc. Apart from these achievements, they are also Principal Investigators and Co-Principal Investigators in several externally funded national and international research projects in the areas of agricultural marketing, agricultural supply and value chains, cooperatives, export potential, marketing efficiency, problems and policy issues in agricultural marketing etc. Institute of Agribusiness Management, Bangalore is located in a prime location in the commercial city like Bengaluru.
