The fourth edition of the Summer School for Women in Physics brought together 53 undergraduate students from across India for 10 days at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru — exploring physics through experiments, problem-solving, lectures and conversations beyond the classroom.

For Kripa Gowrishankar and Sumathi Rao, the physicists reflecting on the journey behind the school, it is about more than learning physics.

For students who may often be the only girl in their physics classroom, being surrounded by women who share their curiosity can make a difference. It creates a peer group, opens up conversations with mentors and offers a glimpse of possibilities they may not have considered before.

“Maybe I can actually do research.”

That shift in imagination can be powerful.

Read their reflections on what goes into creating a space where young women can explore physics, meet potential mentors and begin to see themselves as part of its future:

What does it take for a mission hospital to stay relevant when healthcare itself is changing?

For one mission hospital in Udupi, the answer wasn’t to become more like a corporate hospital.

It was to look inward — strengthen its systems, listen to its people, understand its community, and rethink what care needs to look like today.

From investing in local healthcare education and workforce development to building geriatric and palliative care, strengthening in-house services and embracing sustainable practices, the hospital’s turnaround was built through many deliberate choices.

The larger lesson? Healthcare institutions don’t build resilience through growth alone. They build it by staying rooted in purpose while evolving with the needs of the people they serve.
