On August 17th and 18th, the IKS department successfully hosted a two-day strategic workshop titled: 'Siddha Handbook Development and Strategic Research Plans'.

This event marks a significant achievement for the TDU IKS Centre of Excellence in Traditional Knowledge and Informatics in Ayurveda – Pharmacology of Medicinal Plants. To help you draft the social media captions, here are the key highlights of the event

The primary agenda was to pioneer a series of textbooks aimed at UG and PG Biology scholars. By cross-pollinating the ancient Siddha system of medicine with modern biological sciences, these books will serve as a foundation for rigorous future research and help communicate the science of Siddha medicine to a global audience.

Following intensive deliberations, the expert committee has officially agreed to author a book series comprising 13 books.

We had eminent figures like the National Coordinator for the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Division of the Ministry of Education at AICTE, New Delhi and Shri Paras Jain, Project Associate from the IKS division, Ministry of Education in attendance. Additionally, Professor Darshan Shankar ji and the Vice Chancellor, Dr Leena Wadia also addressed the expert panel of Siddha doctors and researchers.

Eminent Siddha stalwarts on the expert panel included Dr. Harihara Mahadevan, Dr. Vimal Narayanan, Dr. Kabilan, Dr. Sathiyarajeswaran, Dr. Shree Devi, Dr. Kannan, Dr. Elansekaran, Dr. Harirama Murthy, Dr. Jagannathan, Dr. Mathukumar, Dr. Shivaraman, and Dr. Arul Amuthan.

Two days. Diverse perspectives. Meaningful conversations.

Medhya Mantrana 2026 brought together senior Ayurveda Vaidyas, researchers, and stakeholders at TDU, Bengaluru, to explore new directions in brain health, cognitive wellness, and healthy ageing.

We were honoured to have Dr. Kaustubha Upadhyaya, Advisor, AYUSH, Government of India, as the Chief Guest, and Mr. Ganesh, President, Pratiksha Trust, as the Guest of Honour.

The gathering featured research presentations by Dr. Ashwini Godbole and the research team, followed by enriching deliberations and brainstorming with experienced Vaidyas.

A shared vision: bringing together research, clinical wisdom, and collaboration to advance evidence-informed Ayurveda for healthier ageing.

Faculty members and staff participated in the ceremony and joined together in commemorating this special occasion.

The programme included a speech on the significance of Independence Day, followed by the distribution of sweets to all those present.

As part of the India Food Systems Youth Network, we recently hosted the webinar, "Is Food Processing a Necessary Evil?", featuring Dr. Eram S. Rao, Professor of Food Technology at Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences, University of Delhi.

From understanding how to read food labels and identify added sugars to unpacking the role of food processing, consumer awareness and making informed food choices, the session offered practical insights to help us navigate today's food system with greater confidence.
