IEEE UVCE

IEEE UVCE Student Branch of IEEE established at the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering in 2001

IEEE UVCE has come to be perhaps one of the most recognized student branches across the Region 10 of IEEE. Rekindled in 2001, and with 21 years of pride and legacy, the student branch has since grown to a strength of over 300 plus student members every year. IEEE UVCE has been interminably striving to hoist the student community and the retention of its members. The organization’s commitment to en

hancing and upgrading the core and technical knowledge base of its members to the industry standards is reflected in the host of activities organized by it throughout the year. Also, the IEEE UVCE Community is striding ahead and has never backed up in providing all the necessary skills to its students' community, despite the situation like pandemics and all IEEE UVCE had still kept its members active and helped them to learn new things in virtual mode. Two events however stand head and shoulders above the sea of activities. ‘Kagada’ the National level Annual Technical Paper Presentation Competition which has bagged ‘The Darrel Chong Gold Level Activity’ award in the year 2019, aims to inspire undergraduate students to take up research and promote critical thinking apart from the technical aspects of the fest IEEE UVCE has also organized humanitarian activities such as "food for cause" and "Ottige Kaliyona" to help out the under privilege community of the society. ‘IMPETUS’ the National Level Technical Extravaganza is conducted with a trending theme, as a part of which, several workshops are organized. Along with these, an ample amount of workshops, symposiums, guest lectures, and Industrial visits are organized. The already impressive collection of activities is further enhanced by the various opportunities provided to its members to serve as a volunteer and to organize events at the college and section level, such as SYW Congress, WIE Symposium, AISYC, and other major IEEE events. To encourage women in engineering, plentiful events are organized and the female students are given an opportunity to volunteer and participate, among which the prestigious Grace Hopper celebration in computing (GHCI), the WIE symposium are worth mentioning. IEEE UVCE offers support and encouragement to its members by conducting seminars for free and also a reduction in the paid hands-on workshop fee. The industrial visits are organized to provide students a sneak peek into the inner workings of the industries and the thrill of exploration. IEEE UVCE hunts for new talents in college through these events, also helping the members develop their organizing, leadership, and volunteering skills. IEEE UVCE also organizes monthly challenges and mentorship activities which helps its members to stay updated with the current trends and to shape their technical skills. Also irrespective of branches IEEE UVCE is conducting technical & educational activities both virtually and offline.

Industrial Visit to Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd.

An industrial visit to Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd. was organized by IEEE UVCE in collaboration with IEEE WIE Bangalore Section, with the objective of providing participants with practical exposure to automobile manufacturing processes.

Upon arrival at the plant, the group was introduced to a highly structured and efficient industrial environment that reflects Toyota’s commitment to manufacturing excellence. The visit enabled participants to observe key stages of automobile production, including welding, painting, and final assembly. Each stage was carried out with remarkable precision, coordination, and strict adherence to standardized procedures, showcasing the effectiveness of Toyota’s production system.

One of the most significant learnings from the visit was the exposure to renowned Japanese manufacturing philosophies such as Kaizen (continuous improvement), Just-In-Time (JIT), and Lean Manufacturing. These principles focus on minimizing waste, optimizing resource utilization, and enhancing productivity through continuous improvement. Their practical implementation was clearly visible throughout the plant’s operations.

Participants also gained insight into Toyota’s core guiding principle: “Safety First, Quality must.” This philosophy was evident in the stringent safety protocols maintained across the facility, along with rigorous quality checks at every stage of production to ensure reliability and excellence in the final output.

Overall, the industrial visit proved to be highly informative and enriching for all attendees. It offered valuable exposure to real-world industrial practices and helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of modern manufacturing systems.

Solve-A-Maze Workshop

IEEE UVCE PES x PELS x YANTRIK organized the Solve-A-Maze Workshop as a pre-event to introduce students to the fundamentals of robotics through the development of an obstacle-avoiding bot designed to navigate and clear a maze autonomously.

Participants were introduced to essential components such as ultrasonic sensors, Arduino UNO, DC motors and motor drivers along with the basics of Arduino programming. The session focused on how sensors detect obstacles and how the bot processes this data to change direction and successfully move through a maze.

A live demonstration of the obstacle-avoiding robot helped participants understand how the system detects barriers and navigates efficiently within the maze environment. The workshop provided students with practical exposure to basic robotics concepts and prepared them for the upcoming Hack-A-Maze event.
