Gait speed is now treated in geriatric medicine as a vital sign in its own right –as telling as blood pressure, and a strong predictor of how well a person will live over the following decade.
With India's elderly population projected to double in the coming decades, preserving independent mobility has become a public health question rather than a niche clinical one.
The Department of Aerospace Engineering, IISc, presents GAIT & AGEING 2026 – the inaugural National Seminar & Workshop on gait analysis and healthy ageing, on 28–29 August at Faculty Hall.
The event brings clinicians and computational movement researchers into the same room, two communities that rarely meet.
Day 1: A hands-on workshop on motion capture and instrumented clinical gait assessment. Limited to 30 participants.
Day 2: A national seminar with nine speakers across neurology, physiotherapy, movement science, Ayurveda and Edge AI, closing with a panel discussion.
Open to physiotherapists, geriatricians, clinicians, movement scientists, and researchers in computer vision and med-tech.
