Hubballi IT firm takes PU students under its wing
HUBBALLI: Help can come from the unlikeliest of places. A city-based IT company - Sankalp Semiconductor - has taken 35 underprivileged students under its wing. It will sponsor their BSc education and make them industry-ready.

Vivek Pawar, CEO of the company, says the initiative is part of a four-year programme under the Deshpande Susandhi Sankalp Fellowship (DSSF). "In the first eight months, Deshpande Foundation will train students in soft skills and in next four, they will be equipped with IT skills by our company. Thereafter, ekLakshya VLSI R&D Centre Pvt Ltd - the training and development arm of Sankalp Semiconductor - will train them. The candidates will work with engineers at Sankalp Semiconductor for the next four years. During the course, they will be paid a stipend of Rs 8,000 per month."

DSSF is designed to mould BSc students into world-class professionals. "It was launched four years ago. Some of our candidates have already joined the top 10 IT companies of the world," says the CEO.

The firm has increased the intake of mentees from 25 to 35 this year.

Yesudas Achary, director of ekLakshya, says the candidates will be enrolled for a BSc course at the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) on an earn-and-learn basis. "As there is scarcity of VLSI (very large-scale integration) technicians and there are immense job opportunities in India, our candidates can easily get jobs in this field. This is a unique initiative launched in India for students who have cleared II PU in the science stream."http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/hubballi/Hubballi-IT-firm-takes-PU-students-under-its-wing/articleshow/48410382.cms
