Indian Institute of Plantation Management, Bangalore - IIPMB Indian Institute of Plantation Management, Bangalore is an exclusive, sectoral school of Management UPASI and Indian Tea Association (ITA).

Realizing the potentialities and needs of modernization of the plantation sector through management education and training, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India constituted a core group in 1990 to set up a strategic institution of management education in the plantation sector. Accordingly a blue-print for the Indian Institute of Plantation Management, (IIPM) Bangalore was prepared.

This blue-print envisaged the Institute as a centre of excellence, to act as a think tank and an intellectual resource base for the plantation sector. It also envisaged the Institute as an exclusive sectoral school of management based on a new model intensive institute-industry interaction. After the acceptance of the blueprint by the Government, a steering committee of the Ministry of Commerce provided the initial thrust for setting up the Institute. In November 1993, the Institute was registered as an autonomous educational institution of higher learning, under the Karnataka Society Registration Act. It is jointly sponsored by the plantation sector and the Commodity Boards viz. Coffee Board, Tea Board, Rubber Board, Spices Board and Plantation Associations, viz. The Institute is today a centre of excellence which acts as a think tank and an intellectual resource base for the plantation and associated agri-business sector. It is an exclusive sectoral school of management based on a new model of intensive institute-industry interaction

Institute is actively supported by the Industry through its uniquely designed Faculty Finance Support Scheme. Commodity Boards and several leading corporates have instituted chairs at the Institute. Currently, the chairs have been instituted by Tata Tea Limited, Goodricke Group Limited, WIlliamson Magor Group and Tata Coffee Limited. In return, Institute provides intellectual support to the Industry through its research, brainstorming workshops and seminars etc.

IIPM Bengaluru was honored to host Dr. Chengappa, Former Vice Chancellor, UAS Bengaluru, for an insightful session under the AIP Dialogues - Academic, Industry & Policy initiative, focusing on the role of Independent Directors in corporate governance.

The session covered the evolution, objectives, appointment, duties and responsibilities of Independent Directors, along with board processes, stakeholder expectations, financial controls, related-party transactions and performance evaluation.

IIPM Bengaluru was honored to host Mr. Udayan, District Development Manager (DDM), NABARD, Bengaluru Urban District, for an insightful session on NABARD's evolution as a Developmental Financial Institution.

The Indian Institute of Plantation Management (IIPMB), Bengaluru in collaboration with The Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD), inaugurated the training programme on “Agri Value Chain, Climate-Resilient Agriculture Financing, and Marketing” on 17th August 2026 (Monday).

The inaugural programme brought together distinguished experts from the fields of rural development, banking, agricultural financing, value chains, and marketing. The programme was graced by Dr. S. Senthil Vinayagam, Director, IIPMB, who delivered the Presidential Address, and Mr. Vikas Vashistha, DGM (ABU & GSS), SBI, Bengaluru Circle, who joined as the Chief Guest. The programme also featured an overview by Ms. Sheela Bhandarkar, DGM, BIRD, and Mr. Satheesan Kartha, DGM/FM.

The programme aims to strengthen understanding of agricultural value chains, climate-resilient agriculture, financing mechanisms, and effective marketing strategies, while fostering knowledge-sharing between academia, banking institutions, and the agricultural sector.

The Indian Institute of Plantation Management Bengaluru (IIPMB) proudly celebrated the Valedictory Ceremony and Certificate Distribution of the 15th Batch of the Professional Certificate Programme on Tea Tasting & Marketing (TTM).
