Political Photography – Beyond the Picture - Workshop

The workshop, “Political Photography – Beyond the Picture,” conducted by Ms. Supriya Rath, explored the relationship between photography, politics, and society. The session examined how photography can document and communicate political and social realities, while also serving as a visual record of protests, movements, and significant events.

Ms. Supriya discussed the importance of intention, subject selection, framing, and composition in communicating a particular message through an image. The workshop also highlighted the role of ethics and consent, emphasizing informed consent, responsible use of photographs, and treating subjects with dignity and respect.

As part of the hands-on activity, students worked in groups and photographed a series of given prompts, exploring how identity and social roles can be represented through visual cues, setting, composition, framing, and body language. Each group presented their photographs and discussed their creative approaches, followed by feedback from Ms. Supriya on their visual communication, composition, and ex*****on.

The workshop concluded by encouraging students to look beyond the conventional idea of political photography as simply documenting protests and to experiment with different subjects, perspectives, and photographic approaches while developing their own creative interests and niche.

Digital Art Workshop with Ms. Sarina Solomon

The workshop began with an engaging presentation on Lighting and Shadow in Digital Art,introducing students to key concepts such as highlights, centre light, shadows, halftones, cast shadows, and reflected lights. Students were also introduced to various techniques for developing creative ideas, including brainstorming, mind mapping, random word generation, seeking inspiration outdoors, and exploring diverse forms of content.

The session then moved into a hands-on creative activity, where students worked in teams of **2–3 members** to create drawings based on randomly given words such as Black, Rose, Football, and Race. The facilitator interacted with each team, reviewed their work, and provided individual feedback and suggestions.

The workshop concluded with an interactive quiz covering the concepts discussed, followed by an open Q&A session where students had the opportunity to personally approach the facilitator and clarify their doubts. The session provided students with an engaging introduction to digital art while encouraging creative thinking, observation, experimentation, and idea development.
