Debate Competition on Drug Menace Organised at BHSS Baramulla, under NMBA
Baramulla, May 18:
A meaningful and thought-provoking Phase–II Debate Competition on the growing menace of drugs was organised jointly by BHSS Baramulla, the District Administration Baramulla, and the Indian Army. The programme witnessed active participation from students, educators, civil administration, and Army officials, reflecting a collective commitment towards creating a drug-free society.
The debate was conducted on the topic:
“Pressures of modern life are a greater driver of the drug menace — stress, curiosity, and peer pressure among teenagers OR a result of targeted smuggling—from the Golden Crescent and the easy availability of drugs; to destroy social fabric?”
A total of 24 participants along with 2 reserve participants from various institutions participated in the competition and presented insightful arguments on the social, psychological, and geopolitical dimensions of drug abuse.
The programme commenced with the opening remarks by Dr. Shameem Ahmad Bhat, Principal, BHSS Baramulla, who highlighted the importance of awareness, guidance, and youth engagement in addressing the growing menace of drugs.

The debate competition was adjudged by an esteemed panel comprising:

During their addresses, Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo, Dr. Sheikh Ghulam Mohammad, and Mr. Inam-ul-Maqbool shared valuable words of wisdom and emphasized the importance of counselling, a stress-free environment, moral values, and religious teachings in combating drug abuse and guiding youth towards constructive and meaningful lives.
A special feedback session was also conducted by Dr. Sheikh Mubarek Gul, Lecturer Environmental Science, BHSS Baramulla, wherein students and participants shared their views and reflections on the issue.

The proceedings of the programme were gracefully conducted by Dr. Sheikh Mubarek Gul, Lecturer Environmental Science, BHSS Baramulla, who also presented the vote of thanks at the conclusion of the event.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge and commitment by all stakeholders to combat the menace of drugs through a holistic approach involving awareness, counselling, education, community participation, and moral guidance.
