Department of Microbiology, The University Of Burdwan The department has an intake capacity of 16 students each year.

The department runs by six permanent world class teaching faculties , two technical assistants, one librarian , one office staff, one peon & one junior lab attendant. semester system, four semesters, & the department gives M.Sc degree in Pure Microbiology...
Apart from the permanent faculties, many other guest faculties are called to take classes for specific papers.. like virology, Enzymology etc

Currently, the department is headedby Dr. Pradipta Saha, Associate Professor, A Ph.D in Microbiology from IMTECH, Chandigarh (JNU), a pioneer in Microbial Diversity in India.Dr. Saha discovered 2 Novel bacterial Genera & 4 Novel bacterial species... His area of interest is Exploring microbial diversity in India & pesticide degrading bacteria...
