CU Punjab Sensitizes Rural Youth Towards Skill Development, Employment, and Drug De-Addiction Through Community Interaction Programme

Reinforcing its commitment to rural empowerment and social transformation, the Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab), under the visionary leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, organized a special Community Interaction Programme to connect rural youth with employment-oriented educational opportunities, skill development pathways, and drug de-addiction awareness. Around 100 participants, including village sarpanches, local youth, and community members from 10 villages, actively participated in the programme.
During this programme, participants were informed about CU Punjab’s six newly launched NCVET-approved Skill Development Courses: Assistant Plumber – General, Helper Electrician, Fundamentals of Computers, Introduction to Tally Operation and GST Calculation, Biomedical Waste Management for Nursing and Paramedical Staff, and Essentials of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. University officials informed participants that these courses have been specially designed for youngsters who have passed 8th, 9th, 10th, or 12th standards and possess relevant experience while seeking to further enhance their skills and employability. Detailed eligibility criteria, course structure, and admission-related information are available in the University Prospectus on the official CU Punjab website.
Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari apprised participants of the significance of the six job-oriented Skill Development Courses launched under the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and approved by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India. He emphasized that skill-based education has the potential to bring prosperity to the nation and stated that universities must go beyond awarding degrees by promoting employment-oriented skill development programmes, especially for youth unable to pursue higher studies, to make them self-reliant, future-ready, and active contributors to nation-building through employability, entrepreneurship, and social empowerment. He also urged youth and communities to work together towards a drug-free society through skill development and positive engagement.
Prof. Kiran Hazarika, Pro Vice-Chancellor, highlighted that these skill development programmes offer valuable avenues for employment, entrepreneurship, and self-employment by equipping learners with practical and industry-relevant expertise in sectors such as electrical work, plumbing, computing, accounting, healthcare, and technical services.
Registrar Dr. Vijay Sharma elaborated on the structure and vision of these programmes, stating that the courses have been introduced to strengthen employability, self-reliance, and vocational excellence among youth in alignment with the national missions of Atma Nirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat. He noted that the programmes have been designed with flexible eligibility criteria, affordable fee structures, and extensive practical training components to ensure accessibility for youth from diverse educational backgrounds, particularly those from rural and semi-urban communities.
Towards the end, Dr. Rajkumar Sharma, Finance Officer, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to expanding awareness so that maximum youth from underserved communities can benefit from these transformative opportunities and expressed gratitude to all participants. Prof. Sanjeev Thakur, Dr. Sanjeev Mander, and Dr. Akash Prakash, University Medical Officer, moderated the programme and sensitized participants to the University’s broader community outreach initiatives promoting drug de-addiction and social well-being. Village sarpanches and local residents commended the University’s proactive engagement with rural communities to spread awareness about accessible career-oriented opportunities, and initiative drug de-addiction community outreach.

🌟 Central University of Punjab Celebrates Academic Excellence! 🌟

The Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab), Bathinda, has announced the promotion of 39 faculty members under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) for the period from 1st January 2026 to 20th April 2026. These promotions recognize the faculty members’ sustained academic excellence, impactful research contributions, and dedicated service to the institution.

The promotions have been conferred following a rigorous evaluation process in accordance with the guidelines of the University Grants Commission. Under the scheme, faculty members have been elevated across different academic levels.

A total of 12 faculty members have been promoted from Associate Professor to Professor, namely:

Dr. Sanjeev Kumar (History), Dr. Shruti Kanga (Geography), Dr. Nishtha Kaushiki (South & Central Asian Studies), Dr. Balachandar Vellingiri (Zoology), Dr. Neelu Rawat (Sociology), Dr. Puneet Pathak (Law), Dr. Bhaw Nath Pandey (Library & Information Science), Dr. Mukesh Kumar Yadav (Microbiology), Dr. Somesh Baranwal (Microbiology), Dr. Baljinder Singh (Biochemistry), Dr. Jagdish Kumar (Computational Sciences), and Dr. Deepika Srivastava (Performing & Fine Arts).

One faculty member has been promoted from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor, namely: Dr. Sabyasachi Senapati (Human Genetics & Molecular Medicine). Further, 26 faculty members have been granted upgradation in Academic Pay Levels (Level-10 to Level-11 and Level-11 to Level-12). Eleven faculty members have been upgraded from Pay Level 11 to Level 12, namely: Dr. Ravindresh Chhabra (Biochemistry), Dr. Vinay Kumar Bari (Biochemistry), Dr. Rakesh Kumar (Chemistry), Dr. J. Nagendra Babu (Chemistry), Dr. Kousik Giri (Computational Sciences), Dr. Sudip Chakraborty (Computational Sciences), Dr. Dinesh Babu P. (English), Dr. Ruchita Verma (Financial Administration), Dr. Pramod Kumar Kushawaha (Microbiology), Dr. Sudheer Singh Verma (on Lien) (South & Central Asian Studies), and Dr. Jyoti Parkash (Zoology). Additionally, 15 faculty members have been upgraded from Pay Level 10 to Level 11, namely: Dr. Ravindresh Chhabra (Biochemistry), Dr. Vinay Kumar Bari (Biochemistry), Dr. Nirmal Renuka (Botany), Dr. Rakesh Kumar (Chemistry), Dr. J. ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਬਠਿੰਡਾ ਦੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਇਨਟੈਕ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਚੈਪਟਰ ਤੇ ਬਠਿੰਡਾ ਚੈਪਟਰ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਦੇ 350ਵੇਂ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਲੜੀ ਵਿੱਚ “ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਖਿਆਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ: ਸਰਬਕਾਲੀ ਸਾਰਥਿਕਤਾ” ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਇੱਕ-ਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ 24 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ, 2026 ਨੂੰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਰਾਘਵੇਂਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦ ਤਿਵਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਯੋਗ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਗਏ ਇਸ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਚਿੰਤਕ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਫ਼ੈਸਰ ਆਫ਼ ਐਮੀਨੈਂਸ ਡਾ. ਮਨਮੋਹਨ ਸਿੰਘ, ਸਾਬਕਾ ਆਈਪੀਐਸ ਨੇ ਕੁੰਜੀਵਤ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਇਨਸਾਈਕਲੋਪੀਡੀਆ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਪਰਮਵੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਨਟੈਕ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਚੈਪਟਰ ਦੇ ਕਨਵੀਨਰ ਮੇਜਰ ਜਨਰਲ (ਸੇਵਾਮੁਕਤ) ਬਲਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਬਠਿੰਡਾ ਚੈਪਟਰ ਦੇ ਕਨਵੀਨਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕੰਵਰ ਭੀਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਰਿਜਨਲ ਸੈਂਟਰ, ਬਠਿੰਡਾ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਮੁਖੀ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਡਾ. ਸਤਨਾਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੱਸਲ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਰਿਜਨਲ ਸੈਂਟਰ, ਬਠਿੰਡਾ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਰਾਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਹਿਮਾਚਲ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਧਰਮਸ਼ਾਲਾ ਦੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਤੇ ਡੋਗਰੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਨਰੇਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੇ ਵੱਖੋ-ਵੱਖ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਸੈਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪੇਸ਼ ਹੋਏ ਖੋਜ-ਪਰਚਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮੁਲਾਂਕਣ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਦਘਾਟਨੀ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਡੀਨ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਰਾਮਾਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵੁਸੀਰਿਕਾ ਨੇ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਉਦਘਾਟਨੀ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੁੰਜੀਵਤ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਡਾ. ਮਨਮੋਹਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਦੇ ਸੰਕਲਪ ਦੀ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਰੂਪਰੇਖਾ ਉਲੀਕਦਿਆਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਅਦੁੱਤੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਸਤ੍ਰਿਤ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਦੇ ਸੰਕਲਪ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਖ ਵੱਖ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਝਦਿਆਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਦੀ ਵਿਲੱਖਣਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੀ ਦੂਜਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਬਰਕਰਾਰ ਰੱਖਣ ਤੇ ਔਰੰਗਜ਼ੇਬ ਦੀ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕੱਟੜਤਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਉੱਤਰ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਨੂੰ ਕੇਵਲ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਗੋਂ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਤੇ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਦੇਖਣ-ਸਮਝਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਿੱਖ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਪੱਛਮ ਤੇ ਮੱਧ ਏਸ਼ੀਆ ਵਿਚ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਫੁੱਲਿਤ ਵਪਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਗਲ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਨੇ ਹਰ ਜਾਇਜ਼-ਨਾਜਾਇਜ਼ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਰੋਕਣ ਦਾ ਯਤਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਬਸਤੀਵਾਦੀ ਦੌਰ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਯੂਰਪੀ ਲੇਖਕਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਲਿਖੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੀਮਾਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਵਿਰਸੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਨਵੀਨ ਅੰਤਰ-ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਨੁਕਤਾ-ਨਿਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ‘ਤੇ ਜੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਨੌਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਹੋਏ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਘਰ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਅਨਿੰਨ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਵੀ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਤੱਥ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਕੀਤੇ।
ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਪਰਮਵੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਖਿਆਵਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਹਾਰਕ ਪੱਧਰ ਤੇ ਲਾਗੂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਹਿੰਦੋਸਤਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਰਭੈਅਤਾ ਦਾ ਪਾਠ ਪੜਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਕਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਨਾਲ ਹਿੰਦੋਸਤਾਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਣ ਦੀ ਚੇਤਨਾ ਦਾ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੇ ਹੌਲੀ-ਹੌਲੀ ਮੁਗਲ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਦੇ ਜਬਰ ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਸਾਜਣਾ ਦੇ ਆਦਿ ਬੀਜ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਹਨ।
ਇੰਡੀਅਨ ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਟਰੱਸਟ ਫ਼ਾਰ ਆਰਟ ਐਂਡ ਕਲਚਰਲ ਹੈਰੀਟੇਜ (ਇਨਟੈਕ) ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਕਨਵੀਨਰ ਮੇਜਰ ਜਨਰਲ (ਸੇਵਾਮੁਕਤ) ਬਲਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਟਰੱਸਟ ਦੇ ਉਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਿੱਖ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀਆਂ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਂਭ-ਸੰਭਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਸਿਧਾਂਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਰ ਲਈ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਖਿਆਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀਆਂ ਸਮੁੱਚੀ ਮਾਨਵਤਾ ਲਈ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਭਾਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰਲੇ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੌਰਵਮਈ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਵਿਰਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਨਵੀਂ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਗਰੂਕ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ।
ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਡੀਨ ਇੰਚਾਰਜ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਰਾਮਾਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵੁਸੀਰਿਕਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਇਹ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਸਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਨਵੇਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਸੈਂਟਰ ਆਫ਼ ਸਟੱਡੀਜ਼ ਇਨ ਇੰਡਿਕ ਸਿਵਿਲਾਈਜ਼ੇਸ਼ਨ ਐਂਡ ਰਿਲੀਜ਼ਸ ਸਟੱਡੀਜ਼ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਜਿਸ ਅਧੀਨ ਐਮ.ਏ. ਧਰਮ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਅਤੇ ਐਮ.ਏ. ਸਿਵਿਲਾਈਜ਼ੇਸ਼ਨ ਸਟੱਡੀਜ਼ ਆਦਿ ਕੋਰਸ ਅਗਲੇ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਜਵੀਜ਼ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਸੈਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਲਈ 70 ਤੋਂ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਰਜਿਸਟ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਸੈਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਚੋਣਵੇਂ ਪਰਚੇ ਪੜ੍ਹੇ ਗਏ। ਪਰਚਾ ਲੇਖਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ, ਬਾਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਦੇ ਵਿਭਿੰਨ ਪੱਖਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਖੋਜ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਪੇਸ਼ਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ। ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਸਤਨਾਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੱਸਲ ਨੇ ਭਾਈ ਜੈਤਾ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਪਾਵਨ ਸੀਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੀਰਤਪੁਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤਕ ਲੈ ਜਾਣ ਦੇ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਦੂਸਰੇ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਰਾਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਦੀ ਵਿਲੱਖਣਤਾ ਤੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਵੱਲ ਚੁੱਕਿਆ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਕਦਮ ਸੀ। ਤੀਸਰੇ ਆਨਲਾਈਨ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਨਰੇਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੇ ਪਰਚਾ ਲੇਖਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਖੋਜ-ਪੱਤਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਵਧੀਆ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਹਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਧਾਰ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਗੱਲ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਇਸਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ. ਅਮਨਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਰਮਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਕਰਵਾਈ। ਮੰਚ ਸੰਚਾਲਨ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਡਾ. ਸਰਬਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਨਿਭਾਈ। ਸਹਾਇਕ ਪ੍ਰੋਫ਼ੈਸਰ ਡਾ. ਸਤਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੱਸਲ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਸਤਾਵ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਖੋਜਾਰਥੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਰਗਰਮ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨਿਭਾਈ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ, ਅਧਿਆਪਕ, ਖੋਜਾਰਥੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਨੇੜਲੇ ਕਾਲਜਾਂ, ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਇਨਟੈਕ ਬਠਿੰਡਾ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਵੀ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਸਨ।

National Seminar Dedicated to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji Organized at Central University of Punjab in Collaboration with INTACH

The Department of Punjabi, Central University of Punjab, in collaboration with INTACH Punjab Chapter and INTACH Bathinda Chapter, organized a one-day national seminar on April 24, 2026. The seminar, titled “Teachings and Martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji: Universal Relevance,” was held as part of a series of events commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
The seminar was conducted under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari. The keynote address was delivered by distinguished Punjabi scholar Dr. Manmohan Singh, Professor of Eminence at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and former IPS officer. The special lecture was delivered by Prof. Paramvir Singh of the Sikh Encyclopaedia Department, Punjabi University, Patiala. Major General (Retd.) Balwinder Singh, Convener of INTACH Punjab Chapter, and Sh. Kanwar Bhim Singh, Convener of INTACH Bathinda Chapter, graced the occasion as special guests. The academic sessions were chaired by Prof. Dr. Satnam Singh Jassal (former Head, Punjabi University Regional Centre, Bathinda), Prof. Rajinder Singh (Punjabi Department, Regional Centre, Bathinda), and Prof. Naresh Kumar (Head, Department of Punjabi and Dogri, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala), who also evaluated the research papers presented during the seminar. The inaugural session was presided over by Prof. Ramakrishna Wusirika, Dean (Academic Affairs) of the University.
In his keynote address, Dr. Manmohan Singh delineated the historical evolution of the concept of martyrdom and highlighted the distinctive nature of the sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. He observed that the martyrdom was not merely religious in character but also possessed significant political and economic dimensions. It was undertaken to uphold the right of others to practice their faith and to respond to the religious intolerance of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. He further emphasized the necessity of critically re-examining Sikh history beyond colonial interpretations and shared important insights regarding the Sikh martyrs who laid down their lives alongside the Guru.
In his special address, Prof. Paramvir Singh offered a concise exposition of the teachings of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, noting that the Guru exemplified in practice the principles articulated in his Bani. He stated that the Guru imparted a sense of fearlessness and liberated people from the fear of death, thereby instilling a consciousness of dignified living. He further remarked that the seeds of the creation of the Khalsa were inherent in the Guru’s martyrdom.
Major General (Retd.) Balwinder Singh elaborated upon the objectives of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), underscoring the importance of preserving historical sites associated with Sikh heritage and promoting Sikh philosophy. He stressed the need to create greater awareness among the younger generation regarding the rich cultural heritage of India and the universal relevance of the teachings and sacrifices of the Sikh Gurus.
In his presidential address, Prof. Ramakrishna Wusirika commended the Department of Punjabi for organizing the seminar and informed the audience about the proposed establishment of the Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Centre for Studies in Indic Civilization and Religious Studies at the University. The Centre proposes to introduce postgraduate programmes such as M.A. in Religious Studies and M.A. in Civilization Studies from the forthcoming academic session.
The seminar received more than 70 registrations, and selected research papers were presented across three academic sessions. The presentations examined diverse aspects of the life, teachings, and martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. In his remarks, Prof. Satnam Singh Jassal discussed the historic journey of Bhai Jaita Ji in carrying the sacred head of the Guru to Kiratpur Sahib. Prof. Rajinder Singh highlighted the unparalleled nature of the Guru’s martyrdom, describing it as a seminal moment in the history of human rights. During the third, online session, Prof. Naresh Kumar advised researchers to strengthen their scholarly work through rigorous use of references and evidence.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Head of the Department, Dr. Amandeep Singh, followed by an introduction to the seminar by Prof. Ramanpreet Kaur. The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Sarabjit Singh. Assistant Professors Dr. Satpreet Singh Jassal and Gurpreet Kaur proposed the vote of thanks. Research scholars and students of the Department of Punjabi actively contributed to the successful organization of the event. Faculty members, researchers, and students from various departments of the University, along with participants from nearby colleges and universities and members of INTACH Bathinda, were present on the occasion.

Central University of Punjab Secures 251–300 Rank Band in Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2026

Central University of Punjab has strengthened its presence on the Asian academic landscape by securing a 251–300 rank band in the prestigious Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2026. The University has been placed among the top six Central Universities in India, achieving an overall score of 40.2–42.7, along with a notable Research Quality score of 69.0.
The quality assessment of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) has been conducted across five components: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry, and International Outlook, and CU Punjab has demonstrated commendable performance across all these parameters.
The University has also delivered strong performances in earlier editions of THE rankings. In the THE World University Rankings by Subject 2026 (released in January 2026), CU Punjab secured rank bands of 251–300 in Medicine and Health, 401–500 in Physical Sciences, and 601–800 in Life Sciences. Additionally, the University maintained a global rank band of 601–800 in the THE World University Rankings 2026 (released in November 2025). At the national level, the University has shown a consistent upward trajectory, securing the 77th rank in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, along with improved standings in other national rankings.
In the latest THE Asia Rankings 2026, CU Punjab is ranked among the top 31 higher education institutions in India, placing it alongside premier institutions such as IITs, NITs, and leading research universities.
Welcoming the achievement, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari stated that CU Punjab’s inclusion in the THE Asia University Rankings 2026 in the 205–300 rank band is a matter of immense pride. The University’s consistent rise in research output and citation impact reflects the strength and quality of its research ecosystem, as duly recognized in the rankings. This achievement is the result of the sustained efforts of our faculty, researchers, students, and all stakeholders, reaffirming our commitment to excellence in higher education and research
The inclusion of CU Punjab in the THE Asia University Rankings 2026 stands as a testament to its growing academic stature, research excellence, and dedication to advancing impactful, high-quality education on the global stage.

Central University of Punjab Celebrates Earth Day 2026 with Wide Participation and Environmental Awareness Initiatives

The Department of Geology at the Central University of Punjab, in collaboration with the Institutions’ Innovation Council (IIC), celebrated Earth Day 2026 with an engaging and insightful Save the Mother Earth and Environment Awareness Programme. The event, themed “Our Power, Our Planet,” brought together students, faculty, experts, and school participants to reflect upon environmental stewardship and sustainable living.
The celebrations witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 250 students of Classes VIII to XII representing six schools, including Millennium School Bathinda, Wheat Fields Public School Ghudda, Delhi Public School Bathinda, St. Xavier’s World School Bathinda, Different convent schools, and Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 Bathinda.
The programme commenced with a symbolic plant watering ceremony, reflecting the institution’s commitment to ecological preservation. Prof. Bandana Samant, Head of the Department of Geology, welcomed the dignitaries and participants, highlighting the significance and history of Earth Day while outlining the schedule of events.
Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari delivered the inaugural lecture, describing Earth as a nurturing source of life and emphasizing the collective responsibility of society to protect natural resources. He highlighted the need for sustainable development and encouraged students to adopt environmentally responsible practices.
Prof. Kiran Hazarika, Pro Vice-Chancellor, also graced the occasion and inspired young participants to contribute towards environmental conservation and safeguarding the planet.
The Vice-Chancellor and Pro Vice-Chancellor administered the Earth Day pledge, reaffirming the participants’ commitment to environmental protection.
The inaugural session featured insightful deliberations, with Prof. J. K. Pattanaik discussing the theme and climate change impacts; Prof. Monisha Dhiman highlighting students’ role in environmental awareness; Prof. Sunil Mittal addressing groundwater decline and pollution in Punjab; Prof. V. K. Garg outlining national and international climate policies; and Prof. Smeer Durrani delivering a lecture on critical minerals and their applications.
The academic and competitive segment of the programme included model and poster presentations by school students, a quiz competition, and a short play presented by university students, all of which reflected creativity, awareness, and active engagement.
In the post-lunch session, a geological specimens and model exhibition and poster presentations by M.Sc. and Ph.D. scholars were organized, showcasing innovative research and scientific understanding of Earth sciences.
A campus-wide cleanliness drive was also conducted, reinforcing the importance of environmental responsibility and community participation. The programme concluded with a valedictory session, while earlier a prize distribution ceremony was held to felicitate the winners of various competitions.
On this occassion, Registrar Dr. Vijay Sharma & Finance Officer Dr. Rajkumar Sharma expressed gratitude to the participating school teachers and commended the efforts of the event coordinators, including faculty members of the Department of Geology—Prof. Bandana Samant, Prof. J. K. Pattanaik, Prof. K. K. Singh, Dr. Rahul Mukherjee, Dr. Vamdev Pathak, Dr. Suparna Tewari, and Dr. Saurabh Gupta (Convener).
The Earth Day celebrations successfully fostered environmental awareness and reaffirmed the Central University of Punjab’s commitment to sustainable development and ecological conservation
