What does freedom mean to India's youth today?

170 students at Akal University stood up to answer that question.

On August 14, to mark India's 80th Independence Day, the Department of Liberal Arts and NSS Unit organised a declamation competition: "Yuvak Shakti: Virasat Ton Vikas Tak" — Youth Power: From Heritage to Development.

S. Akashbir Singh opened the event. He spoke about why Independence Day still matters, and why youth are key to India's growth.

Students then took the stage. They spoke on two themes: the role of youth in India's progress, and what citizens of a free India owe to the vision of 2047.

Dr. Gurtek Singh, HOD of Liberal Arts, closed the event with a message on civic duty. Every participant received a certificate.

Faculty present included Dr. Janpreet Singh, Dr. Sukhdarshan Singh, Ms. Manpreet Kaur, and Miss Amritpal Kaur.

A New Session Begins in the Divine Presence of Guru Sahib 🙏

The Academic Session 2026-27 has officially begun at Akal University, Talwandi Sabo — and we couldn't have asked for a more powerful start.

Today, our campus resonated with Shabad Kirtan, Ardas, and devotion as we performed the Bhog of the two-day Sri Akhand Path Sahib, seeking Akal Purakh's blessings for the year ahead.

✨ Students and faculty came together as one — reciting Kirtan, sharing Kavishri, and presenting powerful Gurmat perspectives from the stage.

✨ Our Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gurmail Singh, welcomed the new batch with wisdom — sharing the life philosophy of Sant Baba Attar Singh Ji and the importance of Naam, while inspiring students to plan their journey with clarity and purpose.

Fourteen students. Two experiments each. One certification on the line.

The Department of Physics at Akal University, Talwandi Sabo, conducted the 'Certificate of Experimental Skills' examination — a joint initiative with the Nehru Science Centre Mumbai (Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India) and the Bombay Association for Science Education.

No theory papers here. Students were evaluated at individual stations on equipment handling, measurement accuracy, and experimental ethics.

Dr. Sushil Kumar, Head of the Department, put it simply: this is NEP 2020 in action — skill over syllabus.

Khushmanpreet Kaur, from Akal Academy Bhai Desa, cracked the exam — proof that rural Punjab's classrooms are already producing national-level talent.

Evaluators stayed back after results to clear doubts, because at Akal University, preparing students for what's next matters just as much as what just happened.
