We at Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) continue to strengthen our international industry partnerships, fostering collaboration in technology, research, innovation, skill development, and advanced manufacturing.

On 22 August 2026, a senior leadership delegation from one of Japan’s leading genset manufacturing companies visited Bengaluru to explore opportunities for technology collaboration, joint ventures, technology transfer and industry–academia partnerships.

The delegation visited the Visvesvaraya Research & Innovation Foundation (VRIF) VTU VRIF Excellence Centre, Bengaluru, and appreciated VTU’s vision of connecting global technology and engineering excellence with India’s manufacturing capabilities, cost competitiveness and frugal innovation.

The discussions explored the possibility of establishing an Indo-Japan Centre of Excellence in Mobility and Energy, with potential collaboration in:

• Technology and research

• Innovation and product development

• Industry-oriented skill development

• Student exchange programmes

• Japan study tours and international industry exposure

VTU is also collaborating with Indian and international industries to establish a Centre of Excellence for Mobility & Energy at its Muddenahalli campus, the birthplace of Sir M. Visvesvaraya.

The proposed collaboration seeks to combine Japanese technology, quality and engineering excellence with Indian application-oriented engineering, manufacturing capabilities and frugal innovation to develop globally competitive solutions — Made in India for the World.

The initiative aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat, while creating new opportunities for technology-driven education, research, industry collaboration and global exposure for students and researchers.

•A New Chapter in Innovation, Skills and Technology at VTU•

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of its Centres of Excellence and AICTE IDEA Lab, further strengthening the University's commitment to innovation, advanced skill development, experiential learning, research and industry collaboration.

The inauguration programme commenced at the New Lab Complex, where the newly established facilities were formally inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) T. G. Sitharam, Professor, IISc Bengaluru and former Chairman, AICTE, New Delhi. The occasion was graced by Prof. V. Keshav Murthy, EC Member, VTU, as the Guest of Honour.

From Laboratories to Innovation Ecosystems:

The newly inaugurated facilities are envisioned as platforms where students, faculty and researchers can move beyond theoretical learning and gain hands-on experience with emerging technologies, develop prototypes, undertake research and address real-world challenges.

The facilities inaugurated include:

• AICTE IDEA Lab
• Centre of Excellence in Reverse Engineering
• Siemens Centre of Excellence
• VTU–Schneider Electric Centre of Excellence, comprising:

a.Industrial Automation Technologies
b. Building Automation Technologies
c. Solar Energy System

These facilities bring advanced technologies and industry-oriented learning closer to students, creating opportunities for practical exposure, interdisciplinary learning, innovation and skill development.

Formal Function at Senate Hall:

Following the inauguration at the New Lab Complex, a formal function was held at the Senate Hall, VTU.

The programme commenced with Vande Mataram, followed by an invocation song by Tejaswini Sk. Registrar Dr. Prasad B. Rampure delivered the Welcome Address and extended the floral welcome to the dignitaries.

The symbolic watering of the plant represented growth, sustainability and the nurturing of new ideas and innovation.

A brief overview of the Centre of Excellence was presented by Mr. Sampangi Arun Kr., Manager/CoE, i-value, providing insights into the facilities, opportunities and the role of the CoE in empowering students and innovators.

•Message from the Chief Guest:

Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) T. G. Sitharam emphasised the critical role of youth and skills in building a Viksit Bharat. He appreciated VTU's efforts in establishing Centres of Excellence and contributing towards the development of a skilled workforce for the nation.

He also highlighted the importance of confidence among young people and emphasised that language should never become a barrier to success and growth.

•Vision for the Future:

In his Presidential Address, VTU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vidyashankar S. highlighted the vision behind establishing the Centres of Excellence and Skills Labs and stressed the importance of their effective utilisation.

The facilities are intended to provide young minds and budding innovators with accessible platforms to experiment, learn, build and innovate — strengthening their ability to contribute to the Make in India vision.

The University is committed to ensuring that students make the best use of the accessible and low-cost facilities available across VTU, transforming knowledge into practical skills, innovation and entrepreneurship.

These efforts align with the larger national aspiration of building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

•Leadership and Team Effort:

The successful establishment and inauguration of these facilities reflects the leadership and vision of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vidyashankar S.

The dedicated efforts of Dr. Bharath K. N., Dr. Anil S. Pol, Dr. Ranjana Nadagourdar and the VTU Centres of Excellence Team played an important role in coordinating the various academic, technical and industry-related activities.

Their planning, coordination and commitment helped bring together multiple Centres of Excellence and specialised laboratories into a unified ecosystem focused on innovation, skills and industry relevance.

The formal ceremony was anchored by Ms. Chaitrali Bhandare, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, whose confident stage presence, clear articulation and engaging delivery ensured a smooth and dignified flow throughout the programme.

YUGANTARA | A Celebration of Innovation on India's 80th Independence Day

On the occasion of India's 80th Independence Day, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, witnessed a remarkable celebration of creativity, curiosity and innovation through “Yugantara”, the final-day exhibition of the Discovery Course.

Held at the Auditorium Courtyard, VTU, the exhibition was organised under the supervision of the First Year Coordinator Cell, bringing together the learning and hands-on experiences of first-year students from across the University's Centres of Excellence.

The exhibition was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Vidyashankar S., following the formal Independence Day function. The Vice Chancellor interacted with the students, explored their exhibits and appreciated their enthusiasm, creativity and efforts in transforming their learning experiences into tangible demonstrations.

From Discovery to Creation

The Discovery Course was envisioned as an immersive journey for first-year students, taking them beyond the conventional classroom and introducing them to VTU's ecosystem of advanced laboratories, Centres of Excellence, emerging technologies and innovation facilities.

The journey progressed through two distinct phases:

Odyssey of Innovation – where students explored and discovered the University's Centres of Excellence.

Athena's Quest – where students moved into hands-on learning, gaining practical exposure and developing their understanding through experimentation and application.

The culmination of this journey was Yugantara, where students had the opportunity to showcase what they had learned and experienced.

Seven Exhibits. One Journey of Innovation.

The exhibition featured seven exhibits representing the diverse learning experiences across the Centres of Excellence, giving students a platform to demonstrate technologies, concepts, prototypes and practical applications they encountered during the Discovery Course.

From automation and robotics to emerging technologies and engineering applications, the exhibits reflected the multidisciplinary nature of the learning journey.

More importantly, the exhibition demonstrated a shift from learning about technology to learning by doing.

A Celebration of Young Innovators

For the first-year students, Yugantara was more than an exhibition. It was an opportunity to collaborate, experiment, communicate ideas and gain confidence in presenting their work before faculty members, university leadership and fellow students.

The event also reinforced VTU's commitment to creating an academic environment where students are encouraged to explore, experiment, innovate and build from the very beginning of their engineering journey.

The celebration of Independence Day thus took on an additional meaning — celebrating not only the nation's freedom, but also the freedom to imagine, question, create and innovate.

Yugantara marked the culmination of the Discovery Course's first chapter, while opening the door to a new journey of innovation for VTU's young engineers.

From discovery to hands-on learning, from ideas to exhibits — the journey continues.

A Historic 80th Independence Day Celebration at Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi

🇮🇳 A celebration of freedom, patriotism, culture and the spirit of a new generation!

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India on 15th August 2026 with grandeur, enthusiasm and an overwhelming sense of national pride.

For the first time in nearly 25 years, the Independence Day celebration at VTU was organised on such a grand scale, bringing together the University’s leadership, faculty, staff, students and guests for a memorable celebration at the Amphitheatre, Jnana Sangama.

The celebration was graced by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. S. Vidyashankar, Dr. Prasad B. Rampure Registrar, Dr. Ujwal U. J., Registrar (Evaluation), Dr. Prashantha Nayaka G. Finance Officer, Chairpersons of Departments, Directors, faculty, staff and students.

A Celebration Driven by Vision and Teamwork

Under the visionary leadership of Dr. S. Vidyashankar, Vice-Chancellor, VTU, the celebration was meticulously planned and executed through the collaborative efforts of the First Year Coordination Cell, VTU Media Cell and Students’ Clubs.

The programme reflected the collective efforts of the University community and showcased how institutional leadership and student participation can come together to create a celebration of national significance.

🇮🇳 A Historic Recitation of Vande Mataram

One of the most significant moments of the celebration was the recitation of the National Song, including Vande Mataram, as part of the official Independence Day programme.

The official programme scheduled the recitation of the National Song — six stanzas/Vande Mataram, followed by the hoisting of the National Flag and the singing of the National Anthem. The programme also specifically referred to the provisions of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Act, 2026 and instructed everyone to stand during the National Song and National Anthem.

This created a deeply patriotic and memorable atmosphere across the VTU campus.

🌟 Young Talent Takes Centre Stage

The celebration was not merely a ceremonial programme. It became a vibrant platform for the newly inducted first-year students and members of the Cultural Club to showcase their talent.

The cultural programme featured an impressive variety of performances:
Speeches, Dances, Patriotic Song, Mime/Skit, Poetry and Karate.

The anchoring and programme coordination were also led by the young first-year students, giving the new inductees an opportunity to take responsibility and actively contribute to one of the University's most important national celebrations.

From Tradition to Tomorrow

The celebration beautifully combined the solemnity of the national ceremony with the creativity and energy of young India.

The National Flag Hoisting, National Song and National Anthem represented the nation's heritage and collective identity, while the cultural performances by the students reflected the talent, confidence and aspirations of the generation that will shape India's technological future.

The programme was therefore more than an Independence Day celebration — it was a reflection of VTU's commitment to developing technically competent, culturally rooted and socially responsible young professionals.

The 80th Independence Day celebration will remain a memorable chapter in the history of VTU, bringing together its leadership, faculty, staff and students under one shared spirit of nation-building and Viksit Bharat.

One-Day Workshop on “Agentic AI: Build Your First AI Agent”
The Centralised Placement Cell, VTU Belagavi, organised a one-day workshop on “Agentic AI: Build Your First AI Agent” on 7 August 2026 at Jnana Samvada-1, Jnana Sangama Campus, VTU Belagavi, for final-year students of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE).

The session was delivered by iPEC Solutions Private Limited, Bengaluru, with Shri Sivanadan V, Managing Director, and Dr. Fathima Afroz, Data Scientist, sharing their expertise and practical insights into the rapidly evolving field of Agentic AI.
The workshop provided students with valuable exposure to the concepts, applications and practical possibilities of AI agents, helping them understand how intelligent systems can be designed to perform tasks, make decisions and interact with users.

The Department of Management Studies, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, successfully concluded the 2-Day Management Development Program & Exposure Visit for CBSE School Principals with a meaningful valedictory ceremony that celebrated leadership, collaboration, and a shared commitment to educational excellence.

The valedictory session commenced with a warm Welcome Address by Dr. Prahlad Rathod, Chairperson, Department of Management Studies, who welcomed the dignitaries and participants while appreciating the enthusiastic participation of school leaders throughout the two-day programme.

A comprehensive report of the programme was presented by Mr. Saurabh Pote, Assistant Professor, Department of Management Studies, highlighting the key technical sessions, interactions, discussions, and the exposure visit to VTU's Centres of Excellence that provided participants with valuable insights into the University's academic and research ecosystem.

Adding a personal dimension to the programme, three women Principals representing the participating CBSE schools shared their feedback, expressing their appreciation for the thoughtfully curated sessions, industry-relevant discussions, and the opportunity to witness VTU's state-of-the-art infrastructure. They acknowledged that the programme offered practical perspectives on institutional leadership, innovation, and academic excellence that they could implement in their respective schools.

The highlight of the ceremony was the inspiring address by Dr. Vidyashankar S., Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, VTU, Belagavi. Reflecting on his journey as Vice Chancellor, he shared how, upon assuming office, he envisioned transforming existing spaces within Silver Jubilee Bhavan, Vidya Bhavan, and the new laboratory complex. Facilities that were originally planned for administrative offices, data centres, storage rooms, and other support functions were thoughtfully reimagined into vibrant academic, research, and innovation spaces that now serve students, faculty, and researchers.

Addressing the participating Principals, Dr. Vidyashankar emphasized that leadership goes beyond administrative responsibilities. He encouraged school leaders not to remain confined to their offices but to actively explore every corner of their institutions, interact with teachers and students, and understand the functioning of their campuses. He remarked that only by being present on the ground can a leader truly identify opportunities for improvement and transformation.

Sharing a powerful leadership lesson, he urged every Principal to leave a meaningful footprint wherever they serve, so that their contributions continue to inspire long after they move on from the institution. He further encouraged all CBSE schools to pursue academic excellence, innovation, and national recognition, motivating the Principals to strive for prestigious awards in the education sector by fostering quality, creativity, and continuous improvement.

The programme concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by Dr. Deepti Shetty, Nodal Officer – CBSE and Assistant Professor, Department of Management Studies, who expressed gratitude to the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, dignitaries, participating Principals, faculty members, organizing committee, student volunteers, and everyone who contributed to the success of the programme.
