“Best Project of the year Award” – To the students of S. G. Balekundri Institute of Technology, Belagavi.
Karnataka State Council for Science & Technology Bangalore had held 41st Student project Programme (SPP) seminar/Exhibition on 10th & 11th of this month in B.I.E.T, Davangere. “Biodiesel from Sal Seed Oil” a project from Mechanical engineering department of S.G.B.I.T, has been awarded as “Best project of the year” in the Biofuel category. Around 43 projects from 33 Engineering colleges were participated in this competition of Biofuel projects.
Mr. Imamuddin S Rahimkhan, Mr. Asif M Lokapuri, Mr. Mohammedfaisal A Nandgad students of Mechanical Engineering Department have carried out the Biodiesel from Sal seed oil under the Guidance of Prof. Prasad Kallolimath.
This Institute is celebrating its Decennial celebration and this award is added a feather in the cap. On the eve of this success the president of SSE Trust His Holiness Dr, Siddharama Swamiji, Chairman G C Shri S. G. Sambargimath, Principal Dr. S. S. Salimath, Dept Head Dr. U. C. Kapale, Student Project Co-ordinator Dr. Veeranna D.K, and all staff and students congratulated the team.

S. G. Balekundri Institute of Technology (SGBIT), Belagavi is established in the year 2008, by Shri Siddharameshwar Education Trust under the presidentship of His Holiness Dr. Siddharama Swamiji. The trust facilitates General and Technical Education since 1932. SGBIT is committed to integrate spirituality with education by arranging value addition programmes in Social, Moral & Technical fields contributing to the human resource development needed for the state, nation and the world over. The Institute has Five Undergraduate, Two Post Graduate Programme and Three Research Centres. All the programmes are equipped with well qualified faculty. It has a campus with serene scholastic atmosphere consisting of well planned infrastructure with spacious classrooms, sophisticated equipments, state of art laboratories. The students of this institute have achieved a good success in academics, sports & other co-curricular activities.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is established in the year 2008 with an intake of 60 students. The department has grown strong over the last 10 years with the intake rising to 120 students. The department has more than 22 well qualified faculty members. A Master’s degree course in Thermal Power Engineering was introduced in the year 2014 to create adequate opportunities to scholars with a desire to pursue career in research and education. Acknowledging the requirements of current scenario in the industry the department introduced the advanced software’s and machineries like Wind Tunnel setup (First of its kind in North Karnataka Region), Biodiesel Extraction Unit and Variable Compression Ratio (VCR) Engine for Performance/Combustion/Emission Testing Unit to cater the needs of both industry and academia. The Department also offers research programme (PhD) degrees from VTU and at present more than 16 researchers are pursuing PhD in the department.

The department is seeking the applications from aspirants to take-up the admissions in M.Tech (Thermal Power Engineering) course for the year 2018-19.
