Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel College has been awarded a 'B' grade with a CGPA of 2.11 in the second cycle of NAAC accreditation, as per the results announced yesterday by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). This grade will remain valid for the next five years. It is worth noting that in the first NAAC cycle held in 2017, the college had received a 'B' grade with a CGPA of 2.04.
NAAC is an autonomous body in India that evaluates the quality and standards of higher education institutions (such as universities and colleges). Its main objective is to assess and accredit the quality of higher educational institutions. The assessment is based on various criteria including academic processes, outcomes, curriculum, teaching-learning methods, faculty, research, infrastructure, learning resources, organization, governance, financial welfare, and student services.
Dr. Akhilendra Nath Tiwary, the NAAC and IQAC Coordinator of the college, stated that he was entrusted with this responsibility in March 2024. The task involved preparing the Annual Quality Assurance Reports (AQAR) from 2017 to 2023, the Institutional Information for Quality Assessment (IIQA) for 2024, and the Self-Study Report (SSR) as mandated by NAAC for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). These tasks were completed on time between April and June. Furthermore, the Data Validation and Verification (DVV) of the Self-Study Report was also completed by August 2024, and all related fees were duly paid.
However, NAAC made certain fundamental policy changes in February 2025, wherein it was decided that all college evaluations would be conducted online by the Peer Team, while evaluations at the university level would be in hybrid mode. Eventually, the online Peer Team visit for the college was conducted on May 26 and 27, during which the college showed slight improvement and received a 'B' grade with a CGPA of 2.11.
Since 2023, the college has addressed several shortcomings. For instance:
тАв The Alumni Association has been officially registered, and alumni meetups and conferences will be organized annually.
тАв Initiatives have been taken for student employment, progression to higher education, community development, parent-teacher meetings, seminars on Indian knowledge systems and intellectual property rights, quality research, financial assistance for teachers to participate in seminars and conferences.
тАв The library has been upgraded with CBCS-compliant books and online subscriptions.
тАв Detailed reports and outcomes of all programs have been documented.
тАв Program Outcomes (POs) and Course Outcomes (COs), including their feedback and mapping, are now being implemented.
The long-term goal is to elevate the college to an 'A' grade, by adopting all necessary quality benchmarks.
Additionally, the college will begin working on some of the suggestions made by NAAC, including:
тАв Establishing a Bhojpuri Study Centre.
тАв Setting up an Incubation Centre to support the development and strengthening of early-stage startups.
тАв Increasing student enrollment in UGC-SWAYAM courses.
тАв Forming new committees in line with the latest UGC guidelines, such as:
тАв Human Values and Ethics
тАв Internal Complaints Committee
тАв Anti-Ragging Cell
тАв Equal Opportunity Cell
тАв Socio-economic and Disadvantaged Group Cell
Dr. Tiwary thanked the entire college fraternity for their efforts during this NAAC exercise and called upon everyone to work diligently toward the future action plan.
