Mr. Dibakar Roy, a PhD scholar in the Electrical Engineering Department at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhilai, has been awarded the prestigious “Chhattisgarh Young Scientist Award - 2026” in the division Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, and Instrumentation in recognition of his impactful research on “A Mobile-Based Application for Ripeness Detection of Amrapalli Mango Using BIS + ML Approach.”
The award was conferred at the 21st Chhattisgarh Young Scientist Congress (CYSC-2026), held during March 17–18, 2026, at IIIT Naya Raipur, jointly organized by the Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology (CCOST) and the Government of Chhattisgarh. The award was presented by Shri Guru Khushwant Saheb Ji, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister, Government of Chhattisgarh, in the presence of Shri Sonmoni Borah, Principal Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Government of Chhattisgarh, Dr. Angelo Zaia, Senior Executive, SmartMe (Messina, Italy), and Prof. O. P. Vyas, Vice-Chancellor & Director, IIIT Naya Raipur.
The award carries a cash prize of ₹21,000, along with a memento and certificate, and includes a fully sponsored single visit to any National Laboratory, Research Center, or recognized university for a duration of two months to support and advance the recipient’s research work.
Mr. Roy’s research focuses on intelligent sensing systems, machine learning-based applications, and instrumentation for real-world agricultural and environmental monitoring challenges. He is associated with the ASCII Lab at IIT Bhilai and works under the supervision of Dr. Avishek Adhikary.
