Teacher's Day is celebrated in India on 5th September every year. This day is celebrated as the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second President of India and a great educationist.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888. He was a great philosopher, scholar and educationist. He spent a long part of his life in the field of education. He taught in reputed institutions in the country and abroad.

Dr. Radhakrishnan believed that teachers do not just impart knowledge of books, but play an important role in shaping children's thinking and their future. According to him, education has a big role to play in building a strong society and a better nation.
The most important thing related to Teachers' Day is related to Dr. Radhakrishnan's birthday. When he became the President of India in 1962, some of his former students and friends came to meet him. He sought permission from Dr Radhakrishnan to celebrate his birthday in a special way.

Dr. Radhakrishnan suggested a different one instead of celebrating a personal celebration on his birthday. He said that if his birthday has to be celebrated, then this day should be celebrated as Teachers' Day to honor teachers across the country. This idea later became a national tradition and 5th September came to be celebrated as Teacher's Day.
Teacher's Day is a reminder every year of how important the role of a teacher is in shaping the future of any child. Dr. Radhakrishnan dedicated his birthday to all the teachers of the country instead of making it a personal celebration.

For this reason, September 5 has become not just a date of a birthday, but a symbol of respect for teachers in India.

The Department of Posts released a special commemorative cover to mark 20 years of the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), celebrating the institution’s two-decade journey in medical education, healthcare and service to society.

KIIT Vice Chancellor Prof. Saranjit Singh said KIMS had emerged as one of the biggest healthcare service providers in eastern India. Pointing to the growing importance of medical tourism, he said around four to five lakh foreign nationals come to India for medical treatment every year, and KIMS had a significant role to play in strengthening Odisha’s position as a healthcare destination.

Very happy to meet some of my lovable KISSian alumni who have made their mark in sports, as they came to greet me on National Sports Day.

Many of them came to KISS as young children and, with education, training and hard work, went on to represent Odisha and India at different levels.

For me, there can be no greater happiness than seeing my KISSians grow, achieve and build their own identity through sports.

Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), a constituent of KIIT Deemed to be University, organized a “Research Project Expo–2026” with the theme “Evidence in Action: Elevating the Nursing Profession through Outcomes” on 31st August 2026, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at KINS.
The expo was inaugurated by Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Director General, KIMS, by cutting the ribbon, in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Niyati Das, Principal, KINS, and Prof. Kalyani Rath, Vice-Principal, KINS.
The event was also graced by distinguished evaluators, including Dr. Krishna Mishra, Asso. Prof., Dept. of community medicine, KIMS, Dr. Vartika Srivastava, Asso. Prof., Dept. of Pharamacology, KIMS, Dr. Benu Gopal Mohapatra, Professor/Director Consultancy Services, School of Civil Engineering, KIIT DU, Dr. Atul Bajoria, Asso. Prof., KIDS, KIIT DU, Dr. Shanta Chakrabarty, Asso. Dean CRF, School of Mechanical Engineering, KIIT DU, Mr.Himanshu Pradhan, Asso. Prof.,School of Public Health, KIIT DU along with the faculty members of KINS. A total of 48 research posters were displayed during the expo. Among these, the final-year B.Sc. Nursing students presented their research work in 15 groups, while the final-year M.Sc. Nursing students presented 33 research project posters. The presentations covered a range of relevant nursing and healthcare research topics, reflecting the students’ efforts to apply evidence-based approaches to nursing practice. The expert evaluators provided valuable suggestions, appreciated the students’ presentation skills, and encouraged them in their research endeavours.
At the end of the session, the winners were announced. In the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Niyati Das, Principal, KINS; Prof. Kalyani Rath, Vice-Principal, KINS; and Dr. Amlan Panda, Assistant Registrar, Research, Development & Innovation (RDI) Cell, KIIT DU, certificates and prizes were distributed to the winners.
The expo provided a valuable platform for young and budding researchers to showcase their innovative ideas and research findings.
At the conclusion of the event, the organizers, Mrs. Debajani Sahoo, Associate Professor, and Ms. Smruti Pragyan Sahoo, Assistant Professor, KINS, expressed their sincere gratitude to the respected evaluators for sharing their valuable time, expertise, and constructive suggestions with the students.

The Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), KIIT Deemed to be University, successfully organized an In-Service Education Programme on “Infection Prevention and Control of Cardiology Patients” on 11th August 2026. The session was conducted by the M.Sc. Nursing Second Year students for Nursing Officers of the Cardiology Unit, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (PBMH), with the aim of strengthening knowledge and promoting safe, evidence-based infection prevention practices in cardiac care.
The programme was conducted under the guidance and supervision of Prof. Asokan R., Head of the Department, Medical-Surgical Nursing, KINS, and Mr. Chandan Pradhan, Associate Professor, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, KINS. Their academic leadership and encouragement supported the planning, organization and successful conduct of the programme. The session was further enriched by the presence of Mrs. Nibedita Mohanty, Professor; Mrs. Minati Das, Professor; Mrs. Devasmita Sahoo, Associate Professor; and Ms. Sarita Marandi, Tutor, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing.
Valuable support was also extended by Mr. Jismon Joseph, Nurse Educator, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences, whose cooperation facilitated smooth coordination with the clinical nursing team. Approximately 25 Nursing Officers participated in the programme, including Nursing Officers from the Cardiology Unit and Infection Control Nursing Officers from concerned wards and Intensive Care Units. Their active involvement, clinical insights and interaction enhanced the practical relevance of the session and encouraged meaningful discussion on infection prevention challenges in cardiac and critical care settings.
The scientific session covered updated infection prevention and control protocols for cardiology patients, with particular emphasis on critically ill, post-operative and actively treated patients requiring invasive or non-invasive supportive measures. The discussion highlighted their increased vulnerability to healthcare-associated infections and emphasized the essential role of Nursing Officers in identifying infection risks, maintaining strict aseptic practices, preventing device-associated infections and reducing avoidable complications. Programme effectiveness was assessed through pre-test and post-test evaluation, and the post-test demonstrated a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge, reflecting the positive educational impact of the session.
The organizers expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prof. (Dr.) Niyati Das, Principal, Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences, and Prof. Kalyani Rath, Vice Principal, Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences, for their inspiring leadership, encouragement and continued support. Sincere appreciation was also extended to Dr. Manas Ranjan Behera, Medical Superintendent, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (PBMH), and Mrs. Gitanjali Mohanta, Nursing Superintendent, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences(PBMH), for their cooperation and commitment to continuing nursing education and clinical competency development.
The enthusiastic participation of Nursing Officers, Infection Control Nursing Officers, faculty members and student organizers reflected a shared commitment to quality nursing care and patient safety. The programme also enabled the M.Sc. Nursing students to strengthen their skills in planning, organizing and delivering structured in-service education in a clinical setting. The programme concluded successfully with appreciation to all contributors, followed by refreshments for all attendees, bringing an academically enriching and clinically meaningful session to a pleasant close. The initiative reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to continuous professional learning, collaborative practice and safer outcomes for cardiac patients.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing at Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS) successfully observed World Breastfeeding Week 2026 from 1 st August to 7 th August under the theme, “Breastfeeding for a sustainable start in life: strengthen what works.” The theme underscores breastfeeding as a healthy and eco-friendly foundation for a child’s future, while emphasising the need to strengthen the policies and community
support systems that empower mothers to breastfeed.
The week-long celebration commenced on 1 st August with a formal unveiling ceremony by Prof. Dr. Niyati Das, Principal of KINS. This was followed by a comprehensive Skillathon held from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM for B.Sc. Nursing 6th-semester students. The interactive session was facilitated by M.Sc. Nursing 1st-year students from the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynaecological Nursing, Community Health Nursing, and Child Health
Nursing. During the program, participants received hands-on training in essential clinical skills, including Antenatal assessment, Partograph maintenance, Conduction of delivery
and Active Management of Third Stage of Labour, Insertion of PPIUCD, PPH management, and Eclampsia management.
The observance continued on 6 th August with a Community Extension Program aimed at raising awareness and promoting sustainable maternal practices in line with the year’s theme.
The outreach initiative featured an educational role-play presented by GNM 2nd-year and B.Sc. Nursing 6th-semester students in the Niladri Vihar area, drawing an audience of 20 to 30 mothers and their family members. The session highlighted the scientific basis of
breastfeeding, the importance of spousal and family support, and the need to advocate for public breastfeeding facilities, under the guidance of faculty from the OBG Department and M.Sc. Nursing 1st- and 2nd-year students. The valedictory program was held on 7 th August and began with a welcome address by Prof. Kalyani Rath, Vice-Principal and Head of the OBG Nursing Department. The final day included an intercollege face painting competition and a best lactation counsellor competition. Dr. Nirmal Kumar Mahakud, Professor, Department of Paediatrics, KIMS, delivered an expert talk on the central theme and shared practical insights on supporting mothers and infants. The ceremony concluded with the announcement of competition winners and the felicitation of the judges by the Heads of various departments.

The success of the week-long celebration was made possible through the dedicated efforts and coordination of the faculties from the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynaecological
Nursing, under the guidance of the organizers, Mrs. Anusuya Behera and Mrs. Monalisa Mall, along with the active participation of M.Sc. Nursing 1st- and 2nd-year students from the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynaecological Nursing. The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Pritha Chakraborty, M.Sc. Nursing 2nd-year student from the
OBG Nursing Department.

Prof. Asokan RG , Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences, KIIT (DU) had the honoured to serve as a resource person in the National conference on “Integrating the power of AI in Nursing”,
organized by Tagore College of Nursing, Tagore Medical College & Hospital, Rathinamangalam, Chennai, on 07th August 2026. The conference brought together nursing faculty, healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, and technology experts to explore the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence in nursing and healthcare. He was invited to deliver a resource session on “Advancing AI initiatives in Nursing academics.” The session focused on the emerging role of AI in strengthening nursing
education, academic processes, research, and faculty and student preparedness. The discussion highlighted the need for responsible and purposeful integration of AI tools into nursing curricula and academic practices. Emphasis was also placed on developing AI
literacy, critical thinking, digital competencies, and the ability to use AI while maintaining professional accountability.
The conference also featured a Panel discussion on “AI in Nursing: Balancing opportunities with ethical challenges,” which provided an important platform for me to deliberating on the opportunities and ethical considerations associated with AI adoption in nursing. The panel discussion encouraged meaningful reflection on issues such as responsible use of AI, ethical decision-making, data privacy, professional accountability, and maintaining the human
element in nursing care and education. Overall, the conference provided an enriching academic platform for sharing knowledge,
exchanging experiences, and exploring innovative approaches to integrating AI into nursing education, clinical practice, and research. Participation as a resource person provided an opportunity to contribute to the academic discourse on AI in nursing and to interact with nursing educators and professionals working towards technology-enabled and future-ready nursing education.
